Still, despite my normal agreement with steph on fuck pre-orders, fuck it, I am fully aboard the hype train. Heil Hels.

You're not in any way wrong, but taking something as basic as titanium from all but two players breaks the power balance to almost SMAX levels.

I never really "got" the benefit of strategic resource equipment. I mean, the next tier up of iron/dust gear tends to be as good or better and the tier 3 stuff is typically locked behind a quest wall anyhow.

    I dun get it.

    They're cheaper production wise.

I rather prefer endless space's mechanic for it, but I suspect we'll see the endless legend version in ES2.

Not really mad, because that one is fine too. :3

Honestly we're only a few hits, not the players.

I appreciate the fact they are doing something different with combat. It was by far the weakest part of the first game.

is the footage of the ships warping in actual in-game stuff, or did they pre-animate that. The guy said something about it but I can't fucking understand him.

I think it's a combination of the Endless Legend and Endless Space combat. As in, you position your fleet and give them orders then watch the battle play out... I think.

From what I got from the vid, you set a very simple strategy and position of your ships before the fight, then it plays itself through it's cinematic battle. Looks similar to how ES1 battle system was, but one extra action you can take previous.

    Looks like it.

That was a pretty bad performance from the interviewer (so many obvious questions missed and replaced with dross from a script) but I suppose it's all just marketing guff anyway. But the combat section did look like it was fairly non-interactive - you could pause and look at stuff, but not actually give orders etc, so you're just watching things play out. Which is fine, if the battles look good and you've got enough input in the set up stages.

The combat in the original Endless Space broke the game for me, it felt far too, well, gamey, with it's different range phases and arbitrary ship count limits.

I'm actually fine with it if that is indeed what it is. Doing it like that does help in MP since battles can take a while if they're controllable. I loved SOTS MP tons, but long battles really slowed the game down.

Me too. Endless Legend's combat is perfect on MAX speed for multiplayer IMO. You can do subtle movements, and apply strategy but it doesn't bog you down for 10-20 minute battle sessions.
