I think the matches have been quite boring this year. There have been a few close ones and some upsets but they were mostly due to some shocking piloting and target calling. Favourites Hydra and PL have of course been super predictable and boring so far - hope we bring something really wacked for our game against each other.

Luckily the commentary has outweighed some of this. Think it's the best so far. Of course MichaelBolton doesn't know shit about anything, but it's just one guy. I find Zastrow mildly entertaining when he's acting as a punching bag for shadoo, and Raivi is of course pretty much a genius when it comes to tournaments.

Commentators are pretty good this time around - Zastrow, KIL2, Shadoo and Raivi are all good commentators. MichaelBolton is better in the studio, but OK overall. Beats Atlas chick from last year anyway.

Matches have been a bit predictable, but I wouldn't say overly so. Group stages everyone wants to pull really solid wins over some teams that perhaps shouldn't be there. I'm waiting to see what happens in BANE vs. Black Legion and HYDRA vs. PL, as you can be sure that those guys will have a solid counter against what the other team has been fielding so far and will have to mix it up.

Except that both of those matches have no importance in terms of advancing and since we (AFAIK) don't know exactly how CCP will distribute the first/second placed teams in the single elimination tree there's not really a need to try and get first place in your group at any price at this point.

I'm assume that they will either bring comedy setups or cheap B-Team setups so as to not show their hand before the finals.

The earliest you would see those matches fought "for serious" would be if they meet again in the finals which is unlikely for BL/BANE at least.

Finals

The top 2 teams from each group will advance to the final day, which will be a 16 team single elimination format. This will be seeded so that teams advancing from the same group will not be able to meet again until the final match.

During the finals, in case of a draw, the team which advanced from the qualifiers with a higher score will advance.

For all we know, they could pick the winners of A-D to go in one half of the tree, the winners of E-H in the other one and just randomize the second places of the other side or any amount of variations while still sticking to the Rules.[/strike:293vltr7]

Well, I can see Black Legion/BANE being somewhat important so you could avoid We Form Voltron in the next match. PL/HYDRA probably less so, since I believe they're pretty confident about beating any of DarkSide/-A-/Negative Ten/Raiden. Personally, I'd want to dodge DarkSide, but that's just me.

i take back what i said about the tournament being dull as fuck btw. just watched the saturday matches and as a rule they're were pretty close and entertaining, was just sunday's games that were a bit meh (for some reason sunday saw a lot more ECM?).
