Pod is what the packs of aliens are called, and if you move close you activate the pod.
Beta strike is an option in the advanced settings when starting a new game (i believe) that doubles all HP and mission timers. Ensuring that you don't have to rush through missions and activating several pods at a time, which can greatly risk your soldiers.
I much prefer playing with beta strike. It makes it harder to lose soldiers in a single round, but also makes mind control and enemies with regen a much bigger problem

Just a reminder, but if you come from XCom1 and LW, the new War of the Chosen is really about making overpowered combinations and using action management skills to massive effect. If you want to look at some insanely powerful combinations, look at some videos of Beaglerush's playthrough on Twitch.

I loved Long War in Xcom 1 and still play that, but I'd rather play vanilla WOTC than Long War 2. It's different and I really hated the first few videos of the new gameplay I saw, but I have to admit that I had a good time with the expansion.

Iirc the BetaStrike changes are 2x hp, 1.5x mission timers, 1x damage numbers, 0.5x after-mission healing time. A pod is a group of enemies that aggro together.

Basically, you now can afford to take multiple turns per group of enemies, but you also will take damage inevitably. Its also why i use the Repeater mod (that changes it to a +crit dmg buff), since oneshotting 40hp enemies randomly is anti-fun.

Is the repeater mod workshop or ingame?

Most noticeably Q as templar guy. Sad that they are the faction that got basically 0 backstory.

I'm doing well, a Commander BetaStrike run. killed the 2nd Chosen, just got mindkiller left, and ill do that once my A team are fully rested.

    Its a total savescum though.

Going to do BetaStrike Veteren Ironman now instead. see if i can make it the whole way through.
Also- Skirmisher sucks later in the game. the Crowd control/Status/mindcontrol of enemies instantly reduces enemy counts by 1, and specialist is essential on all missions. 1 or 2 rangers are pro. Reaper because scout. Having a grenadier i like. Plasma blaster/Acid/Gas bombs are pretty nice in Betastrike for DoT/debuffs. not least still doing 30 damage to an area is cool. Heck I think templar has more utility than skirmisher, just because of Parry and never missing. Though I dont really like templar, oddly though it doesnt need any Psi stats...?!

Skirmisher is tricky. It can give an extra action to someone with Combat Presence, so that alone is very good if you pair it with a shotgun assault, Reaper, or a high-level templar.

Most of the abilities that are _not_ ripjack related are pretty shit tho, either because they only have one charge, have little reward, or are clunky to set up. The ripjack on the other hand has a very high stun chance on the mid tier upgrade, which, rather annoyingly, means you want to intentionally avoid maxing it out. The max upgrade has more damage and a lowish chance to ignite (iirc) like the fusion blade, but ignite is pretty much always worse than hard CC.

A Skirmisher with Combat Presence, a bunch of ripjack abilities, and Saturation Fire, is pretty fun.

Cheers, sadly link doesn't work any more.

We definitely had one for EU but I think that was pre-character pool so was maybe an INI file.

Yeah, Dropbox changed their stuff around since that post went up. I updated the link. Let me know if that one works.
