Looks cool, will almost certainly be buying unless it has a catastrophic release. (Or they do something retarded like make it exclusive to some steam-like platform that isn't steam.)

I hope it's a bit more open and freeform than the first reboot though. Sometimes it felt a little too on-rails. (Mods mostly fixed that but it shouldn't rely on mods making the game good.)

Yeah, continue to reward anti-consumer business practises just to spite some autist on a message board.

The next time you wonder why the AAA gaming industry is awful, go back and read this thread.

Nowhere near enough hours in the day to play all the good games out there. Gotta find time to schedule this one in there when it's released.

I think my definition of a good game needs to be tweaked so that I'm playing fewer games.

Anyway given the recent offerings from Firaxis in terms of sequels I am not overly optimistic. Reserving excitement until I see actual gameplay.

    Remember not to pre-order, folks!
Even if the base game is trash, the people who made Long War for EW will probably be able to work their magic for this game as well.
"Because someone might make a mod that might make it good" is an even worse reason to pre-order a video game than "Because the scripted trailer looked cool".

Seriously, how many times do you people have to get burned?
Yeah I wasn't trying to say anyone should pre-order the game, I'm just saying I'm hyped for this game because I know it'll be good *eventually*.

I like to hear these fabled promises. Probably just a case of he said, she said, its a particular failing of fanbois.

    Yes.

More than 50% of most recent three releases is my standard method of deciding, for reference, although most of the AAA industry can do FAR worse than that.

Also, 20ish years is not enough time for my stockpile of elerium to zero out badly enough for my firestorm to go offline, and certainly isn't long enough for my elite team of six guys who saved humanity to all have died. They all had MELD going on.

That said, I can see, if we go with the on-another-planet theory, the plot could be working:
Abductions didn't all succeed, but abductees who didn't have psionic potential got transplanted to another planet. Xcom finds an elerium source on earth big enough to send a helicarrier full of xcom's new recruits and midrange gear, along with the commander and the core of the team (i'm assuming we'll keep central, vahlen, and get a new guy in engineering, ish, if i'm right) to get them back, find out what species the ethereals made out of us, and nick better tech.

It's a plausible scenario, if somewhat iffy, and I came up with it in a couple of hours while working, i'm sure good ol' sid could come up with something better given he's had all this time (and has minions).

In other news, i'm expecting MELD and fuel for the carrier to be major objectives along the way, and can see them being a pain in the dick to gather, just because fuck you.

Literally the reason AAA games industry sucks.

      Spoiler:

    a) didn't read discussion on why not to preorder
    b) wants to preorder as soon as possible
