    XCOM 2

XCOM 2 will be set 20 years in the future, and shows a world under alien control. Into this enters the now forgotten XCOM organisation, who will attempt to free mankind.
    Also: it's got Snakemen!
It sounds as if the organisation's new role as an invading force will mean a big shift for the meta-strategy. According to the press release, players are "hampered by limited resources and must constantly evade the alien threat in their new mobile headquarters." Through stealth tactics and firepower, players will be tasked with recruiting soldiers and building a resistance network, as well as exposing the "alien agenda".
In terms of features, Firaxis is promising more solider customisation, updated classes, procedurally-generated levels and, as mentioned above, modding support.

So did EU. What did you think the Thin Men were?

Anyway given the recent offerings from Firaxis in terms of sequels I am not overly optimistic. Reserving excitement until I see actual gameplay.

    Remember not to pre-order, folks!

Even if the base game is trash, the people who made Long War for EW will probably be able to work their magic for this game as well.

"Because someone might make a mod that might make it good" is an even worse reason to pre-order a video game than "Because the scripted trailer looked cool".

Seriously, how many times do you people have to get burned?

There will be plenty of opportunities not to pre-order games after I'm dead.

    I'm torn.

A solid gameplay trailer would make me pre-order.

Non-shit multiplayer on show before release would make me pre-order.

I REALLY want this to be good, but fireaxis have burned me too many times now. Maybe their other stuff was shit because they had all the resources working on XCOM 2? I shall live in hope until november. Also interested in the plot they want to use in the time-gap there, fairly sure I had a nice big stack of elerium and some damn hardcore antigravity fighters on standby, as well as having just saved the god-damn world at the end of the campaign, so 20 years until an alien-controlled earth is somewhat bullshit, while 20 years until black-ops insertion onto other alien controlled worlds is somewhat crazy fast.

I've also won 3/4 or so of the games I've started, if we ignore the cycling day 1 for a good start back when I was first learning to beat impossibru.

instead of preordering, just burn some money and pirate it.
same result but more morally acceptable.

Soldier customization sounds like hats, updated classes = the same but changed one ability around, procedurally-generated levels usually are shit compared to carefully hand-crafted maps, modding support was evidently sufficient for LW.
I want to be excited but im not, yet.

The other thing thats bugging me about sequels like this is the retcon. I had bionic psigods and mechagozilla with a jetpack, "hurrdurr scrawny rebels, but with a helicarrier" sounds slightly retarded. At least in TFTD it made sense, what with adapting for underwater use. Oh well, guess i failed that first base defense ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
