    So sold off Anaconda because :boring: and no Fed Corvette on the horizon. Rebought FDL: "fun level optimal". Slightly tweaked setup. Powerlevels are now so that when I activate my SCB the Booster go offline, meaning I use it when I've lost major parts of shields already. Its not ideal but I still get to use all the fancy weapons. Need the heatsink for the Beam + PA. Dual chaff to screw with dem gimbal/turret players. Had great fun killstealing in the CG combat zone. Prefer cannons over multies because of increased damage vs larger targets and only need it vs subsystems. Tweaked joystick so second trigger stage adds the cannons to the beams. Still have the PA on 2nd trigger. Good fun.

    which joystick, how did you tweek to add the cannons with 2nd trigger and PA in same group?

    Warthog, What I did was program a button sequence to the 2nd stage.

    So I have 3 weapon groups in my right panel:
    Group 1= Lasers 1, PA 2, FSDI 2
    Group 2= Lasers 1, Cannons 1, PA 2, FSDI 2
    Group 3= Advanced Discovery Scanner 1, FSDI 2, Kill Warant Scanner 2

    Its default set to group 1. When I press the 2nd stage of the trigger (first stage fires trigger 1) It does the following sequence:
    On press: 1 pulse switch weapon group(button 5 in my case) + 25ms delay, continuous trigger 1
    On release: 2 pulses switch weapon group each with 25ms delay.

    The effect:
    Trigger 1, Stage 1: Lasers
    Trigger 1, Stage 2: Lasers + Cannons
    Trigger 2: PA

    Context sensitive: Scanners, Interdictor

    The effect is that you barely notice the switching. I'm doing something similar with Shield Cell Banks and Shield Boosters. There hitting the button will switch to the panel and power up the Bank, due to priorities the Boosters will power down (It is assumed that if I'm using the bank the booster buffer has been used already). And after powering up it will fire a cell from the bank. What I need to test is if it needs to remain powered through the whole effect (I assume so but you never know). After the cycle is complete it powers down the Bank again.

    Setup runs fairly hot, hence the heat sinks. Double chaff helps against all gimballed baddies. Its bit light on passive tank so it doesn't have much staying power in a fight. Either you are nailing someone or you are running for your life (well, system jumping anyway)

    Edit: The PA is in there mostly for fun factor. Just looking at damage output in both PvE & PvP a class 3 fixed burst will do better. Doesn't require trigger shenanigans either.
    For example this setup has same damage output, runs cooler, better sensors and has stronger shields:

    So in the 1.5 beta they gave FDL a class 6 powerplant instead of 5. So oodles more fitting. And as a bonus its roll/pitch/yaw rates have been improved...Making you fit what you want fairly easily.

    Retried FDL after buffs. Easier to fit for sure, but its still FDL and huge hardpoints are just too situational/gimmicky.
    I'd like a huge laser or at least something else except the derpy plasma/cannon thing

    Main problem with the big plasma is that the weapon lends itself for close range maneuvering fighting instead of mid range bouts. But close in the FDL isn't quite maneuverable enough to actually pull the lead to hit with the big blob. Against bigger (cobra+) ships its just perfect now though.

    I feel the Fed assault melts its way through larger ships faster and more reliably than the FDL and its better against the small buggers too.

    Probably it does, yes, I havent been able to fly both enough to really compare...
    What I meant was that the FDL is better now, worthy of the name of combat ship. I am still eagerly awaiting a faster viper with 4xclass 2.

    For sure, its significantly better than it was, however at the price tag it comes with, there are better alternatives if you wanna pew pew.
    FDLs main partytrick is chasing down people who try to run away in pvp and blap them hardcore up the ass with the plasma.

    With the new power core it also doesn't overheat as quickly so you can just empty a clip of plasma quite easily into dropships, pythons and bigger, as in your weapons capacitor is more of a limit.
