That might be the case for WoW clones, BUT NOT FOR EVE.
You had some major dips in subscription counts after each new expansion lately, and those were the expansions with heavy-duty advertising and plenty of "new features" (which didn't quite work right, and most of them still don't).
Overall, on average, the subscriber count slope didn't get steeper.
In fact, one could argue you have been losing momentum.
Save your money that you spend on advertising, word of mouth got you your userbase, word of mouth WILL KEEP getting you a larger userbase.
Customers you get from "shiny new stuff" won't stay long enough, and by the time you pumped everything full of barely functional junk, you will have alienated a big portion of the user base.
Didn't the last fanfest reactions tell you WHAT the userbase wants ?
Didn't you hear the cheers after the announcement of MINOR polish stuff ?
Learn from your mistakes, CCP.
It's not too late to alter this self-destructive new policy.
STOP RUSHING OUT UNPOLISHED JUNK AND FOCUS ON FIXING WHAT'S BROKEN BEFORE PROCEEDING.

This goes BEYOND the "commitment to excellence", it's actually a plea to whoever inside CCP has eyes to see and ears to listen.
You need to try and convince your boss to convince your boss and so on and so forth.
As long as the mindset amongst CCP's leadership is that "shiny junk sells, old polish doesn't", the EVE vision of future will end up a resounding flop.
Take a look at sales charts, spank some accountants, DO SOMETHING, just stop this madness.

Nice that he finally figured this out now, but we had better graphs and lots more words on this about some time ago. Although it doesn't surprise me in the least that CCP basically hasn't changed that much.

Your future of EVE is in danger. The recent forum failure has spelt a very strong message: CCP is incompetent, and that "Excellence" and "Deliverance" are nothing but lies. At this rate, EVE will be dead sooner than you think.
Broken features never got fixed. "Framework expansions" never got their contents filled in. Products of complete failure wasting everybody's time. CCP has proven again and again that they do not care about pushing out rubbish as long as they keep getting enough the subscriptions. As a result they have learnt to ride on top of the fanboism, they have learnt how to feed us dreams, they have learnt how to keep us hooked, they have learnt how to earn our trust without actually doing anything about the game. But that trust has been shaken.
EVE might be heading to a brighter future, but the current CCP is not the vessel. It is a never-ending lie. The only way to win is not to play. EVE is dead, but since it is so big it still has some momentum keeping it from falling for the moment. But it is going to hit the ground very hard.
What can you do?
1. Unless you like sitting in a room by yourself staring at some screens, while sitting in a room by yourself staring at some screens, dawg, there is nothing worth waiting for in any reasonable time frame.
2. Understand that CCP isn't going anywhere.
3. Let them know that EVE heading right into a brick wall, with CCP in the driving seat.

So much tinfoil in that thread as it gets towards the end. So many people on a trip about goons and ccp being full of them and goons obviously out to screw eve.
