But no there is no demand amirite. Zero. At all.
the problem is not the survival elements, but if the whole survival elements displace the actual story we're there for.

worrying about food and water in the irradiated hellscape of Fallout adds to the experience, just like worrying about food, water and warmth in the frozen lands of Skyrim enchances the experience itself, but it's not the core of the experience.
What is the core experience of Skyrim?

What is the core experience of Skyrim?
    step 1 go to dungeon
step 2 beat the living shit out whatever is in the dungeon in question
step 3 go back to sell the loot
    goto step 1

that's basically the core gameplay loop that everything else is build around supporting and justifying.

they *could* take the Subnauica model, build a story into the gameplay and have you 4X your way around, discovering more about the world, lore, vaults etc etc, moving the Fallout universe forward.

    yeah. they could.

Does anyone really play a Bethesda game primarily for the main quest storyline?

Probably, but most play it for the immersion/world. The main plot is always pretty bad as a whole but works well to set the scene, the combat mechanics are never good, just good enough etc. But just wandering about explotring and doing "stuff" is fun in those sorts of games, and survival elements can add to the if done well.

The problem is most survival games are bad as they're the FOTM and few of the fun ones are fun in a way that fit an rpg background. So when people see "Fallout survival" the initial reaction is sadness and disembarking from the hypetrain at the next stop.

You mean the traditional utterly dogshit main story and sidequests with zero choices and effects?

Here i thought it was about exploring the world and having fun delving into shit and becoming stronger.

and that very much IS the core experience of the game, if they displace the enviormental story telling and the interesting locations and dungeons with just generic survival simulator gameplay, what's the fucking point ?

It's a bethesda open world rpg, environmental story telling and interesting locations are literally the only things they're truly great at, i wouldn't worry too much unless substantial signs point to the otherwise. Being a survival focused game doesn't preclude the world from being cool after all.

rumor has it that it's modified FO4, hence why i don't think it's any sort of MMO.

It was leaked as a rust clone a while back and the guy called it Fallout 76 in his posts so could be quite plausible. Base building and PvP. There was dev replied basically not denying any rumors then saying that he expected people to be pleasantly surprised. Can only hope.

Noclip have been going behind the scenes at Bethesda for a doc on the history of the studio and a making of feature for Fallout 76. Releasing at the same time as E3.
