No, we live in a world that is greater than the sum of its parts but I wouldn't start giving you awards while you do it.

There's a great special report in Private Eye about the magic circle and other City firms enabling money laundering for Russians which you might find interesting by the way (if you've not already read it).
It’s not something I really wanted to comment on - I read what you wrote about it the other day. What I will say is that we have to take exams on ML during the LPC, and the firm I’m at (MC, one of the newer ones) watches us like hawks. I don’t do private client stuff or funds, but, anecdotally, when I was on my vac scheme I sat in antitrust and worked with a few arms companies that were doing some pretty questionable things. I was doing multi-jurisdictional merger control analysis so I had asset concentration lists in front of me - I did feel bad about it at the time, but in finance the stuff is see is too big to be shady.
But yeh I accept that funny stuff goes on, I’m quite removed from it though because I don’t do private client stuff.

At least the SS guards had access to healthcare!

I don't think we should be celebrating a good employer that engages in morally questionable business transactions for any reasons at all.
The company making toilets for Airbus also makes the fuel pump for the Eurofighter.

Pharmaceutical companies make drugs to save lives and their drugs are also used in lethal injections.

Samsung builds smartphones and self propelled artillery.

General Electric builds nuclear submarines and home appliances.

I doubt there's any company that gets a pass under your rule.

I'm a libertarian socialist. So your doubts are well founded.
Not sure how Joe didn't see that coming.

Well at least "I can't believe" is a step up from the usual "I don't care"

Yep. I disagree with many of your views/comments but one thing you are is consistent. Your stance on this one should really be quite obvious by now

As to your comment on my world being very black and white, it is and it isn't. On a grand scale I think it's pretty easy to spot the good and bad. It gets way messier on a smaller level, people have to survive and we're all living in a deeply damaging capitalist environment. People need a roof over their head, they need to work to buy food and live life. The biggest tragedy is that we're all victims of a system which manufactures scarcity in order to sustain itself, and in order to survive we need to consume on its terms and thus act as enablers.

So it is black and white in that I can point at American foreign policy, oil companies hiding climate research for decades, the use of low wage labour etc and say bad. But it's harder to label the student who buys something from Amazon which makes Bezos disgusting sums of money, or the worker with a family who works for an arms manufacturer etc. There's a power/responsibility dynamic built into the hierarchies around us which is often distorted and misunderstood.

Why PayPalís crackdown on ASMR creators should worry you

In June, China banned and excised videos of sound effects while claiming to cleanse its internet of pornography. YouTube had already demonetized the genre in a sex panic; now PayPal is banning people for life and holding individuals' funds, ignorant of the facts and marching lockstep to the tune of 8chan trolls enacting a campaign to punish "whores."
Capitalizing on entrenched and easily exploitable anti-sex policies by internet giant payment processors and a new internet sex panic ushered in by FOSTA, 8chan trolls have started a campaign to mass-report attractive women who make ASMR videos. Listing names of women making these sound-effect videos in a forum thread called "PayPal lowering the hammer on ASMRtits" they've declared war by posting links to report pages for PayPal, and called upon fellow haters to get the women kicked off YouTube and Patreon as well. They're laughing at the women's anguish over creating nonsexual content and losing their revenue streams, saying things like "another whore for the deep-freeze" ó in between posting anti-Semitic and Pepe the frog images, of course.
~ link above for the full, depressing read.
They can just go to another platform if they have a problem with Paypal, Patreon, and Youtube. There's nothing to see here. Corporations can be trusted to not abuse their power. Move along.
This is making me laugh, as it's clearly the result of a government meddling and telling companies to do stuff so they panic to not run afoul even more.

Like you wanted. And were told it only makes things worse. Which you disagreed with.

Poking the walrus aside, i am fucking shocked paypal can continue to operate the way it does, as mentioned above. They're fucking awful.
I didn't realize wanting some pro-consumer regulations was comparable to the abuses of the chinese government. Think of the shareholders!

Nobody, but nobody really wants to go through the hassle needed to become a licensed money transmitter.
