Yes, but it should be run through the WTO rules. This is what Boeing tried with bombardier. Didn't end well for Boeing, frankly. Playing with tariffs is a sign of someone on the verge of defeat and otherwise out of options.

    Or an idiot.

    Or both.
This basically; WTO allows for reciprocity so you take it to them and get a ruling. That's what happened when bush Jr tried the same thing in... 2002? US backed off the tariffs after less than 2 years of them in effect.

But I wouldn't be surprised to see Trump going on about threatening to leave WTO as well.

    >Fowler is arguing that the Supreme Court’s ruling essentially nullified all Tennessee marriage licenses when it opened the spectrum of legal marriage beyond just between a man and a woman, The Tennessean reported.

    >If Tennessee were to ban child marriages by modifying state marriage law, lawmakers would be acknowledging the existence of same-sex marriage, according to Fowler’s legal theory.

It's official folks. The GOP thinks gay people are worse than pedophiles. What an age we live in.
"Okay, okay, Republicans are bad but there's just *no* way th-"

    >State House Republicans in Tennessee on Wednesday effectively killed a bill to ban child marriages in an effort to bolster a conservative lawyer’s case against the Supreme Court decision on same-sex marriage.

    >The bill called for the state to ban marriages where one of the parties is under 18 years old.

I want to get off of the ride now.

Shit reason not to outlaw it. This stupid right-wing fights against civil recognition of gay marriage was lost ages ago ffs.

With that said, the story got me wondering. I didn't know the age of consent for mariage in the UK was 16.. And that Massachusetts is the other state, like Tennessee, that has no minimum.

    Learn something new e'rryday.

Amazing trade scenes. Tariffs will go into effect in 15 days, Canada and Mexico will be exempt ONLY during those two weeks while negotiations continue over NAFTA.

They're trying to spin it here that Australia will get the pass we were promised but in reality we also get the same 15 day window as everyone else to plead a case. Trump saying on TV we're a long term partner and the US enjoys a trade surplus with us, but doesn't actually say we're exempt. The PM literally parroting Trump but can't actually say we're exempt. The government here is probably sweating bullets because they've proven to be quite useless and are struggling domestically. They're also pretty spinless so I expect even if we get the exemption we were promised last year it'll still come at the cost of a face-full of orange pubes.

I suspect they will be using their 'we still signed the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement so its a net gain for the country' card soon.. (It is actually a net gain as the losses to Australia for the Tariffs are pretty small anyway).

So... Incoming tariffs from the EU targeting the American flyover states then I guess..

    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

I'd imagine you'd not do it if you had things like military bases in certain countries.

China is honestly the only superpower which seems to have staying power. Anytime it looks like economic instability is going to hit them they just rewrite the rulebook and let their cultural stability nip any fall out in the bud.

The biggest worry on their horizons is their leader for life going insane.

That's the biggest risk with systems set up this way. I wonder if they have any safeguards developed to deal with the situation when it happens.

As if somebody wanting to be the emperor isn't de facto insane already.
