aren't the republicans edging ever closer to a large enough majority to rewrite the constitution however they feel like ?

i doubt it's donnie they're gonna make president for life though.
The Republicans were really quite close to controlling enough states to call a constitutional convention, they need total control of 34 states and have 32 plus near control of quite a few others. They would almost certainly have made it if Hillary had been elected as the president's party almost always loses seats at the local level. However the Republicans have been slowly bleeding state seats through special elections since Trump got elected so it seems a bit less likely than it did.

The real test is at the next round of elections in November. Usually I'd expect the Dems to do pretty well but the corporate Democrats are staggeringly worthless, determined to run on nothing but 'Trump says mean things' and 'Russia stole our emails/election!!!!!' so if anyone can pull defeat from the jaws of victory it's them.

i am surprised they haven't pulled the dessicated corpse of McCarthyism out of the closet yet and started demand persecution of the resurgent socialism movement among their younger voters.

But wouldn't this be useless because unless one party controls 3/4 of the states, they cannot get any constitutional amendments ratified even though they might get to propose changes in the constitutional convention?

    So, how about them tariffs.

It seems Donal "emphatically" promised our Prime Minister that we'd be exempt from these steel & aluminium tariffs he's now waving around. This promise was made during a sit-down meeting in the secure communications pod at the G20 last year and was witnessed by: the US Treasury Secretary, Commerce Secretary and Whitehouse Chief Economics Adviser plus our Finance Minister and the Deputy Secretary of the Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.

"The Prime Minister and the Australian delegation was "absolutely certain" that a deal had been struck during the Hamburg meeting."

It now appears increasingly unlikely that Australia will be spared from tariffs and the Government is somewhere between panic and pessimism.

So, the US only accounts for about 0.8 per cent of Australia's steel exports and around 1.5 per cent of our aluminium exports. This is an industry worth about $545 million to our economy.

Officially, the government is more concerned about the risk of trade war between the US with China and other key trading partners, but unofficially there have probably been some angry phone calls passed between the politicians and their donors in the metal industries.

I don't know. It may depend on how delegates are chosen for states' ratifying conventions? If you can use a majority in the statehouse to 'gerrymander' who gets to go to the convention then it might be possible to, for example, bypass Democratic Governors?

(But previously Congress has acted to preempt constitutional conventions whenever they looked like they were about to happen by passing an amendment or law that did what the convention was going to do so that they didn't risk a retarded convention. So it might actually depend on how much spine the Democrats in Washington have. ohshit ohshit ohshit we're fucking doomed.)

Ut oh, little Ryan is stepping out of line...

House speaker Ryan splits with Trump on trade as Republicans in Congress move to block planned tariffs
By Washington Post Staff March 5 at 12:06 PM

Congressional Republicans are maneuvering to stop President Trump from levying harsh tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, arguing the move strikes at the heart of their economic agenda and could even cause political blowback heading into the 2018 midterms.

“We are extremely worried about the consequences of a trade war and are urging the White House to not advance with this plan,” AshLee Strong, a spokeswoman for House Speaker Paul D. Ryan (R-Wis.), said in a statement. “The new tax reform law has boosted the economy and we certainly don’t want to jeopardize those gains.”

Every second you think he can't possibly get worse or say something more stupid....it gets worse because he says something more stupid.

Joke or not, any right winger who doesn't stomp all over this quote is a fucking hypocrite of the worst order, because all the shit-stirring Republicans/Righties made pre-Trump election over fears Obama might try to get a third term or hold up the elections, etc.

Dumb shit like this needs stomped down hard, by all sides.

Of course, last time I was in the Bay Area, I spent three months rooming in a 2 bedroom with 5 other people. For $600 a month.

    Hurrah for the future!

He is now on MSNBC, and appears to be drunk. Says "Trump must have done something during the election, and Mueller has something on Trump"...

    Edit: now he's on CNN.
