Joke or not, any right winger who doesn't stomp all over this quote is a fucking hypocrite of the worst order, because all the shit-stirring Republicans/Righties made pre-Trump election over fears Obama might try to get a third term or hold up the elections, etc.

Dumb shit like this needs stomped down hard, by all sides.

I don't disagree with you at all, and I really hope the R do this, but they've already proven to us a few times now during this incident that as a party, they will happily ignore morals and ethics if they think it will help them in terms of power, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

The right wing has no problem with Presidents-for-life. Why should it? Ultimately the right side of the political spectrum is anchored in monarchy, isn't it?

The problem is that you've just failed to appreciate how far right the American right is, despite the fact that we lefties (who are open and up-front about where we sit on the political spectrum and why we believe what we do) have been telling you that "No, these people are fascists" for three fucking years.

The problem with Obama was that he was a) black, and b) a communist (lol), so him being President-for-life was tyrannical and evil. But for their guy? No, it's the only way to stop those evil commie (lol) liberals.

Worse, on a meta level, we on the left have been calling out that this pattern of the center failing to appreciate how far right the right has become is just that: a pattern.

Ultimately this boils down to the core failure of liberalism: its fundamental assumption that people are rational and self-interested, and thus actually believe the things they claim to believe. Liberalism doesn't know how to account for the irrational, the romantic, and the passionate, and so it doesn't know how to deal with the parts of human society and experience that flow from those forces. Perhaps it once did, in its early days, when liberalism was radical, but not in the past century or so.

Yeah, but a Democrat once mis-filed expenses for a pen so really, they're just as bad.

To be fair to the Donald (and now you know this can't possibly be serious), the only US president to serve for 4 terms was a Democrat, and he died in office. All the Donald, and the GOP want, is a shot at the title ....

Although, given his age, and his rapid deterioration, I doubt the Donald will make it that far ....

Then again, Roosevelt wasn't the healthiest president in history either ....

    (Currently visiting the US, BTW)

You're ignoring the fact that the constitution was amended after Roosevelt died because his four term presidency and left-friendly worldview made certain people deeply uncomfortable.

aren't the republicans edging ever closer to a large enough majority to rewrite the constitution however they feel like ?

i doubt it's donnie they're gonna make president for life though.
