Turns out Christopher Steele is the same guy who exposed the FIFA corruption. 53 is a bit old to play James Bond, but I'll take it.

    It could...

More likely an ever worsening array of car crash press conferences like the one yesterday will do it though.

I've been wrong on Trump's vulnerability twice now.

I didn't think he stood a chance in the (R) primaries.

I though the General election would be a Clinton Landslide win.

    I've learned.

Trump can't be bargained with. Trump can't be reasoned with. Trump doesn't feel pity, or remorse, or fear! And Trump absolutely will not stop, ever, until we are dead, er, "great again"!

The sitting President of the US could literally be a Manchurian candidate. Like literally. It's unprecedented.

      Spoiler:
Soon Darth Pence will reveal himself...

One word (well, two actually): home schooling.

If fools (try to) educate fools, all you'll get is more sophisticated fools.
Globalisation is the bigger thing to blame here. Yeah sure it's great for business people and well educated city folk but no so good for your average worker to see his job get moved to Asia.
If I'm not mistaken, the U.S. has currently a very low unemployment rate. Amongst the lowest in decades. Although without doubt jobs had been moved elsewhere.

Fuck, I should read a few threads posts ahead before posting. Lallante alreay mentioned that.

Just wait until he has to deal with someone he can't harrass/order around like he seems to be used to. Like some actual head of state from other countries. His enterpreneur attitude doesn't bode well with those. It'll be interesting to see how the GOP reacts, seeing Trump wrecking any international reputation the U.S. has. Because much of the blame for Trump (at least here in Germany) is directed at the GOP. Gambling the (for now) leading's western nation reputation for some short-sighted, short-termed "Fuck Obamacare" et al will always be attributed as the GOP's fault, because they let "Trump happen".

Thats the narrative, sure, but unemployment is at a long term low, and no amount of protectionism is going to rebuild a mass industrial worker class in any developed country (instead it will spur domestic high tech automation, eliminating even more jobs)
Why wouldn't it be possible to rebuild a developed highly skilled industrial class again?
    It's in his post.

A large number of skilled industrial jobs only exist because the 3rd world person that's trained to do them is cheaper than the automated alternative. If you force companies to on-shore them, they will be automated.

You won't have a highly skilled industrial class, you will have significant expansion of tech/software/engineering industries.

This isn't a bad thing, but the ones already getting the short-end of the globalism stick will still not have their job prospects improved. Those capable of working in tech/software/engineering already do well out of globalism.

Its far more cost effective to make Asians or Mexicans do it. Fix that and you fix having offshore industry, resources notwithstanding. As Lallante said, Automation is coming, but that's just going to move the industry back in a way that eliminates the factory jobs in China and Mexico. (again, resources ignored here, obviously that changes things quite a bit, because locality is always a very efficient way to optimize cost).

Now a highly skilled creative artisinal industry workforce, yes. Or people to work the service side of it. Construction and food will always be around. Why do we need a shitty polluting steel plant when we can put it somewhere else?

I mean, personally, I think we SHOULD expose people to the nasty side of consumerism, which means putting the factories and power plants close and force them to adopt new ways to do this instead of sweeping it under the carpet by moving the factory to China, but hey...

I also think we should be in a total war situation where every single man woman and child is fighting and bombing and assembling battleships and ammunition until we win this fucking war on terror because it would be over pretty fucking quickly if we did that, but what do I know.
    meh

Again communism is the only reasonable answer.

This is what it really comes down to. How can you spend such absurd amounts bailing out a wealthy sector whose hilariously ironic job it is to manage wealth, but not create jobs for people.

Automation is going to turn the world upside down anyway.

use public funds to subsidise the fledgling new industries, raise protectionist tariffs to encourage domestic sales and legislate for worker quotas. if you can create 475billion for banksters you can fund a bit of keynsian hole digging for the people

Congratulations you are now STILL paying these people with taxpayer money, but in a more inefficient way via a third party who will skim some off as profits. Meanwhile you are also wrecking the international trade/relations that support all the independently profitable private sectors in your country.

    Well done.

Mexico is also very head-choppy. Doesn't even have a Green Zone and the main reason it doesn't already have drone strikes happening is blow-back from the cartels would probably trigger a whole bunch of even crazier shit.

Ah yes quantitative easing and bailing out bankers sure is a very efficient use of tax payers money
