For most of Win 10's UI "I like the former style better" needs, ClassicShell to the rescue: http://www.classicshell.net/

The 2016 'Anniversary Update' fixed most of the shortcoming of the UI. When we got Win10 at work I just forced myself to get used to it over a week. I removed Classic Shell from my home PC shortly thereafter.

Splitting the settings between Metro screens and the legacy Control Panel is dumb, though, but even Classic Shell can't fix that.

It is. I just think of that part as a work in progress and hope they get around to finishing it soonish.

Oh and there are plenty of start menu replacers that are pretty nifty IMHO.

I just press the [win] key and enter the program name I want.
    Same as on win7.

That's been my process for 7, 8, 8.1 and 10. If it's not in my task bar then that gets me through fine.

I find it hard to believe anyone with any kind of competence still uses any kind of point-and-click mechanism for launching apps in this day and age

One of the platforms I use at work to do stuff doesn't use mice. All keyboard.

Eh I have 3-4 apps pinned on my taskbar. No faster way of launching apps.

Does anybody here have trouble with your mouse scrolling wheel under win10?

I need to recalibrate how many lines it should scroll every fucking time it upgrades, and most of the times it does not work, you scroll and nothing happens, sometimes you scroll down and the page goes up (and vice versa).

Same behaviour with different mice, it's FUCKING ANNOYING

The only times I've ever had this is when my mouse was fucked.

Woohoo tested 1709 (Autumn creators update) from WSUS to my surface, last restart after all the configuring messages and ‘page fault in non-paged area’ a few restarts later and it has un-upgraded me.

This is following 15PC's blue screening couple of weeks ago because MS release the same KB as a rollup and differential package both as critical (auto accept) but with different version numbers, guess which way around they were installed, queue loads of non-bootable PC's thankfully catching it early enough to pull both updates from wsus and tell every one not to reboot until i had a fix.

    Can Wsus get any worse?

And having an image that does not cause Autism attacks even more so.

Possibly some Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) driver issue? Or a need to now do a BIOS update to match the other half of the system to a changed/corrected OS portion?

I can fiddle around with the BIOS settings. Last BIOS is from 2016-07-18

I will try to search for ACPI stuff later.

Some update hosed the barcode reader software on a bunch of PCs on one of my clients. Pulled the update the vendor said to pull. It was the quarterly rollup.. This is going to go well in a few months when it just gets pushed again under a different kb. Then I'm going to have to start the '6 months behind on patching means no support' conversation...

Iíve noticed that UAC is behaving differently with our Win10 work PCs.

Iím getting prompted for elevation for things that should not require it. Unable to open task manager, regedit, or mmc now, which makes things complicated since all of those have behavior that is user context specific. Putting in admin credentials changes what you see and do.

Also, UAC is now defaulting to my current username, and take 3 clicks and a scroll box to get to a blank username input. I canít think of a use-case where thatís even helpful.

I work with our security and software deployment teams and so far they have no idea what could be causing it. Just started seeing it in the past week on all Win10 builds.
