BTW, if you find that every-once-in-a-while reminder "Get more out of Windows ..." as annoying as I do, here's how to turn it off: https://www.windowscentral.com/how-d...ay-2020-update

    tl;dr
It's a notification and although you probably turned off all notifications already, this one needs to be unchecked to follow the global setting: Settings -> System -> Notifications and Actions -> Uncheck Suggest ways I can finish setting up my device to get the most out of Windows

Need an alternative to the Windows 10 Photos app. Don't need to organize or edit images with it, just need to view. The simpler, the better.

IrfanView? Displays image files, let's you browse through folders with ease.

Powerful batch renaming and resizing engine and stuff underneath, if one needs that.

    I use this:

    https://www.faststone.org/FSViewerDetail.htm

Similar to IrfanView, but I like the UI buttons better in this one

Another one I use alongside with IrfanView: XnView. Looking at the screenshots from FastStone, which I didn't new before, the UI is quite similar (Treeview + all images in the folder as thumbnails). That's the one thing I miss occasionally in IrfanView.

Windows hasn't asked me to schedule a restart time in months, randomly decided to do it on its own today when I walked away from the computer for 2 hours.

Four years in, still not used to this. Still losing work/browser tabs to it.

Even Win10 Home lets you set non-auto-adjusting activity hours, down to a 6h window. Do something like 1am-7am and it won't be on to decide to do it without you invoking the shutdown/restart. The worst case is a long shutdown/additional reboot one evening/morning.

Also browsers can load the last opened tabs. And Windows will cleanly turn off any running programs if able. Your browser should not lose anything. And even if it did, they should have the last opened tabs in the history.

Or have you set your browser to not keep a history?

Chrome usually doesn't bother remembering the tabs that were open. Maybe it's because of how many I usually have going at a time. I had to get a browser extension to do that reliably.

It's still a hassle re-loading 50-200 browser tabs. If it's a video, there's a 50/50 chance it won't remember the time position you were at when it was closed. If the page has audio that auto-plays on it, you'll need to disable that when you go back to the tab again.

I do turn off the PC fairly regularly, although it happens less often during COVID. But this time there were no warnings, no chances to set it for another date later in the week.

This is one of those things that Firefox does much much better it seems. No problems with insane amounts of tabs (it's been years since I needed an add-on for that), they're only actively reloaded once you click on them (but show the correct icon and title until that time). Videos (at least youtube, haven't checked html5 videos) usually remember their position well. Auto-playing audio/video should only get a chance to start once you open the tab (unless it was a pinned tab) but even then Firefox doesn't allow most auto-playing stuff to make noise.

I hear about this sort of usage every once in a while on the FF subreddit. I assume it's people unaware of fucking bookmarks & bookmark folders, as native features (with Save all to... and Load all from..., etc).
    I also assume it's porn.

If you have 200 tabs open with many videos that you are keeping open "because i'm gonna carry on watching it!" you need to learn how to control ADHD and try and become less autistic. You'll thank me for making your life better.

The only time I have more than 5 tabs open is when I'm posting image links to a thread, and then I close them immediately after pasting. And I have moderate ADD.

Someone has yet to tell me what Chrome does better than Firefox. To me it seems worse in every possible aspect ... e.g. Firefox has a dedicated "Restore last session" menu entry in "History". Which does exactly that: open all tabs that were open when Firefox was closed. Bonus points (or security issue): you're still logged into most previous sessions.
