Yeah, slackware is a very good distro. It's actually the distro that reminds me the most of BSD, but I still cling to Debian out of sheer habit

    I use mint non stop.

Also try this it's nice for when you're stuck in the terminal and don't want to bounce out to search

    Professional linuxers:

Are we in a golden age of really cheap, effective enterprise orchestration? Red Hat's investment in ansible, sssd, realmd, certmonger, IPA etc. etc. have yielded huge benefits. I've got a whole host of tasks that I can look at and say that right now they take me about half the time and are about twice as reliable as they were in the 6.x days and if anything we're paying less because it's all moved to per-usage billing.

That depends on how you define "cheap" and "effective".

Does it do most of what you want it to do?

Finally finished four consecutive RELEASE updates on my aging FreeBSD 10.1 file and media server (10.1-RELEASE>10.3-RELEASE>11.0-RELEASE>11.1-RELEASE) and it went like clockwork, well chuffed... that's that for another year or two

Does mint finally allow you to make a vertical panel? I need my taskbar to be vertical for my life to be worthwhile.

Mint is a distro, not a window manager or desktop. I use KDE and you can put taskbar wherever. GNOME3 might as well but ofc noone uses that.

So if your desktop environment doesn't support what you want, just install one that does. On RHEL this would mean -> sudo yum groupinstall "KDE Plasma Workspaces". For ubuntu etc -> https://www.tecmint.com/install-kde-plasma-5-in-linux/

The mint desktop environment is called Cinnamon. I know what a window manager is, thanks.
