Looks great, too bad you can't have warm/cold on the same map.

Since they specifically mention preparing for the cold season I'm really sure it cycles like the day / night cycle in the last expansion. Just more slowly.

Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges
That's how I read this bit.

I figured it's the climates; as you wouldn't expect snow in the tropical climates, or something like that

3 new maps specifically for the snow. Can't remember if the heating and snow shovelling on icy roads applies to normal maps but it really is about dealing with subzero climates so the separate maps make sense.

This Q&A with Quill and one of the devs shows the features off in good detail.

I'll be buying it since the updates appear to add enough new content to make things interesting again. Plus I really like these devs.

From the release info: Spoilered because I think this was already posted on the previous page...

      Spoiler:
    Cities: Skylines Snowfall
In Snowfall, the difficulty heats up when the city cools down, thanks to a new in-game temperature reading that will have residents bundling up for warmth when the weather outside is frightful. Cosmetic weather, composed of rain and fog, will be added to Cities: Skylines as part of a free update, along with other features to be announced soon. Players who own Snowfall will get to face new challenges such as ensuring that their city infrastructure can handle seasonal heating demands – and, when the snow starts falling, that the roads can stay clear. New snowplow services will be required to prevent traffic from freezing in place, while new all-weather trams and expanded public transit options can help residents and visitors alike get around town – and visit the new winter parks and landmarks available in Snowfall.

Now is the Winter of This Content: Rain and fog for existing maps, plus a new “Winter” map theme with snow and all of its challenges

The Streetcars You Desire: Expanded public transportation options, including easier management of existing lines – and Trams, a new system demanded by fans

World Warmth, Too: Cold weather increases demands for electricity, unless new water-based heat systems are in place

Plowers to the People: Build a snowplow depot to keep traffic flowing during winter weather, and employ new road maintenance systems to keep your streets in shape

    - New Chirps: #yeahthereare
    - Pre-order keys will be delivered on release February 18 before 3:00 PM. (PM where? LOL)

Info on the first snowfall release, patch and mod compatibility

      Spoiler:

    Greetings Chirpies!

Tomorrow we release Snowfall, hurray! We are of course very excited to bring you another DLC with snow, trams, more buildings and of course hats for Chirpy.

The DLC is set to launch some time during the afternoon CET.

Having that said - updating a game with the moddability we feature will have its issues. We have worked behind the scenes with a team of the core modders and asset creators to ensure a smooth transition for you all, yet everyone was not available and our resources limited. A few of the more popular mods will stop working with Snowfall.

The biggest one we have identified so far that might cause issues is Traffic++. From what we can see the author is currently not active and we don't have any indication on when or if it will be fixed. For users of this mod we recommend disabling it for new saves and only loading it in "ghost mode" for old saves that are reliant on it being activated to work.

Beyond this we expect most of the major mods and assets to work with Snowfall without bigger problems. HUGE thanks to the wonderful community members and prominent modders that have worked very hard during our closed testing to bring their creations up to speed. You're awesome!

With no further ado, here are the patch notes!

Would happily pay $25 for this DLC if it had fucking seasons.

    Well I bought it anyway.

First Observation: Winter Expansion. No Mountain map.

Cities Skylines is the best city-builder since Sim City 4, if not better, and I love it more than anything.
    I agree.

I thought there was more love for this game here but obviously not!

I thought Snowfall was a worthy expansion with more than mere cosmetic changes, unlike the concensus at release. Natural Disasters sat at odds for me since I like City Sims in order to build, not destroy. I still mean to pick it up during a sale to play around with but I can't see myself using it often.

The new expansion looks promising since it seems to offer more interesting landscaping than roads everywhere.
