If you like to play on a nice table you might want to give this a look before it closes http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/...pon-miniatures

It's cheaper than GW, has no annoying fixed hills and more flexible thanks to smaller tile sizes

    God wills it!

other people in realising that GW rules are shit non shocker

been using other rule sets since 1998 with GW figures, had a shit ton of more fun.
I'm currently using the Kings of War stuff by Mantic - fast play, simple to use. Can feel a bit like 'line up and charge' sometimes but theres ALOT of scope in there to do different things. the siege rules are awesome

(still have 4 armies )

    anecdote time:
main army was O&G (gotta love gobbos). WHFB died for me when goblins just stopped running away, i know that sounds daft but for me it just killed the character of my games. i'd have big horde blocks of 70+ gobbos out in front, with a unit behind containing BSB+general (which couldn't be charged due to millions of gobbo's being in the way). i kept having games where stuff like khorne knights + khorne lord would charge the gobbo's... slaughter 30 of the little shits and the gobbo's would just stand there unphased. like what the actual fuck? i could have changed the way i played to deliberatley play badly ensuring my stuff did run away, but imo that's a pretty bad solution.

don't even get me fucking started on my wood elves and every wood they try and sit in trying to murder them. god those terrain rules are fucking retarded.
Shit. that bad? I recall people trying to convince me 8th was a good thing sometime last year?

I'm only playing it occasionaly nowadays and mostly with house rules to allow for "storymode" games. But I still use a 6th ed rulebook

I also stopped playing WHFB with the 8th ed. But that game still seems to have more appeal to me than 40k has ever had, that universe just makes no sense at all, same for the military tech...

    Zombie prostitutes are go!

Anyone else play this? And if so got any tips for a new player?
I know I chip in with "I play this" every time a game is mentioned, but.....

I play this, and it's great fun. It's nice and unique, and has a surprising amount of depth to it as it's all vastly about combos of units and abilities. The use of cards instead of dice as well as "soulstones" adds an aspect of resource management to it as well.

    Tips:
    - Play the objective. Even more so than any other game I play, this is the point. I have in fact won the game while losing my entire force, and the look on the opponents face who had forgotten HIS objectives was priceless.
    - Good choice of starting models. The rotting belles etc take a bit of practice to use well, but most things do. And Seamus is an absolute monster.
    - Just have fun and laugh. It's all about fun narrative games...it is NOT a good "fight and kill each other" game, nor does it try to be.

Done my first game of Warma over Vassal yesterday, wasnt too bad when you get used to it. Going to try some BFG over Vassal as well, it seems better for smaller games than for big 40k games.

Going to have another tabletop game proxying Cygnar and if they do ok might start on them instead of my Khador as I find them a bit boring.

Decided to paint up the Tomb Queen I bought ages ago. White's not that hard.

The crappy phone camera put a pink tinge to everything.

And yes, I've noticed the seam I missed. Damn hi-rez pictures.

And here's one of my Mordian sargents.

Played my first Malifaux game last night and really enjoyed it it's a great game. I took your advice and focused on the objectives and ended up winning. My opponent was intent on getting into a brawl using Mei Ling and her railworkers and I focused on planting evidence for the mission. In the end I ended up winning the mission and the fight. Seamus is more tanky than I expected him to be and his zombies can take a fair bit of punishment. Finished my corpse markers and now need to finish painting up my crew:

If you ignore the rules people will, half the time, quietly rewrite them so they don't apply to you.

Awesome, glad you enjoyed it! Seamus is actually really tanky with his various abilities, and generally quite mean.
And i'm glad you won...perfect example of how Malifaux focuses on the objective rather than the fighting!

Painted some more tiny metal men (15mm, from ACP Games)

Nothing special, spray matte black followed by brushing on (P3 colours) Thornwood Green with the orange back packs built up from layers of Beaten Purple, Murderous Magenta and finally Khador Red Base. Guns are Pig Iron. Visors are a mixture of Solid Gold and Beaten Purple. I took the remaining Gold & Purple and added some Pig Iron and Thamar Black to get a sort of pearl/metallic grey for the jet bikes. Everything gets a brush over with Armor Wash and is left to dry.

Just a basic test scheme for a small infantry platoon. Shitty photo, I'll try to put something better together when the lighting improves.

Eldar details on here http://faeit.blogspot.co.uk/ the new Wraithknight is pretty massive but no details on whether its an MC or a Walker yet.

Finished all my BFG stuff except for my Ark Mechanicus, forgot how easy BFG stuff was to paint. We will hopefully be starting our campaign this weekend.

Those look pretty good. If there are many new models then I might pick up a small force as a change from the Salamanders.
