Is 30k/HH different rules or is it 40k with a reskin for GW to charge way too much money for 15 year old sprues?

Been considering getting into the crack-cocaine game that is WH but the price point for what I'd want to do (competitive painting) is a bit steep at the moment. Need to get an airbrush, tools to clean up the flashing from finecast, and proper paints, then models to practice and compete with. Was thinking of necrons because robot mummies in space seems like a fun theme to run with and rolling all 5s-6s on reanimation protocols to see your opponent's look of rage or disgust would be worth it.

30k has different rules. It's a modified version of 7th ed, the previous edition of 40K. People have different opinions on how good or bad it is.

8th edition is fine for the most part. Though it could be better because GW is busy cumming all over the space marine figs.

For a while Necrons have been pretty weak as an army, but if they're your thing go for it

You can get by with a cheap chinese iwata-copy for starters, painted many scale models with one of them. After my skills improved I got a H&S airbrush, expensive but really easy to clean and maintain due to their nozzle setup. Also getting a cheap chineae ultrasonic cleaner will make life with a airbrush way easier.

I'm used to supergluing metal minis so am a little confused about all these plastic sprues lying around my house right now.

Do they need any kind of prep before assembly, or do i just clip the bits out slap them together and undercoat ???!

Some people wash their sprues because there can be residue left over from the molding process.
Look, the wages you withheld from the workmen who mowed your fields are crying out against you. The cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of Hosts. You have lived on earth in luxury and self-indulgence. You have fattened yourselves for slaughter.

A light going over with a toothbrush and light dish soap will get all the mold residue off. It's more important with Resin than modern injection molded plastics though.
