I listen to talk radio. Weekend has a show with ex Rugby League players that just jibber on about anything then call the game and mid week as long as you miss the shock jocks it can be quite interesting some of the things they talk about. I'm also an 80 year old...

Finished a Bf-110e whilst I'm waiting for some supplies to arrive in the post to finish off my B-17g. Decided to try out a bit of weathering on this one which is something I rarely do on scale models. Just a bit of dry brushing and citadel washes but I think it came out very well, doesn't show up real well in the pictures but there is just this subtle dusty look to it which is great for one based in the desert. Its Airfix's new one and the plastic is nice but the decals are trash, ended up just using the big ones and leaving the stencils off.

      Spoiler:

Just started on the Hasegawa F-14A. Really nice detailing on it and its going to be a biggie too, that's just the cockpit.

      Spoiler:

im thinking of selling scratchbuilt ork vehicles on ebay for monies as a hobby.

anyone had any experience with this?

was thinking about the same price as gw (roughly 20 quid).

      Spoiler:

obviously unfinished work (would be finished ofc before selling) and takes about 2-3 quid to make and about 6 hours roughly per vehicle. they would be sprayed black or grey and shipped off.

    should i try it?

Might get some interest from the competitive players who want bonus marks for painting and stuff.

Also, you might want to do them a little cheaper then GW, get more business maybe.

    also.
Someone talk me into painting my mahreens that ive had sitting there for about a year.

Your posting is medium, its not rare and its not well done

Go get a bunch of cans of spray paint and spray them from a distance to make them look like this:

Ive finished my Blood Angels army and now Im thinking of doing a pre heresy Emperors Children army. Ive been looking at the Forge World stuff and the maxmini shoulder pads for the terminators. My painting is pretty sucky though, ok for tabletop but not sure about spending a load on Forge World if Im gonna paint it all myself.

Bah I accidentally bought one of those Fulgrim models on eBay.

As its limited edition (250 of them I think) and expensive I was thinking of getting it painted by a pro due on commission, I was thinking of Worthy Painting but not sure on their prices, anyone else know any good ones?

$500???? I thought Blue Table were a bit expensive but thats ridiculous. Any idea of prices for Worthy Painting?

I might do it myself but my painting isnt that good and dont want to ruin a rare awesome model.

$500 for a model is insane, even Studio McVey aren't that expensive.

First a bit of background: the closest I've ever come to wargaming is a night of playing risk (lol). And then the closest I've ever come to model painting was inheriting a shoebox full of miniature plastic army men from my uncle, a few of which he had attempted to (badly) paint.

I bought the introductory battletech set that was on sale on amazon. It came with a bunch of models, but I'm pretty much lost as to what to do with them. The majority are semi-crappy plastic, they have seams and marks from where the mold probably wasn't 100% filled when it was made. Then there are two higher quality models, one of them was assembled with superglue, and the other one is still a bunch of pieces still waiting to be punched out of their plastic framework with a really unhelpful diagram showing how they all go together (all the parts look the same). I'd leave them unpainted, except that I foresee it being hard to play with someone else and tell what's what if everything is the same dull grey color.

    So on to questions:
    1) I'm assuming the model that's supposed to be assembled should be glued together. What kind of glue (I have access to literally anything) should I use? Is there anything I should be careful of when gluing? Should I try to pose it or anything?

    2) For prepping the crappy models, I'm assuming that sanding off the ridges and washing them is a bare minimum, should I worry about primer or anything like that?

    3) Color schemes. I really don't care about cannon paintjobs or anything (if I could I'd just dip half in red paint and the other half in blue), but I would like it to be easier to tell the difference between them and also differentiate my set from someone else's. Any general guidelines on what sort of colors looks good (e.g. light colors for x, dark colors for y)?

    4) I was thinking of attempting to turn some of the defects in the models into battle damage. In particular, the enforcer model has a large hole in the chest that looks like the model was pressed on until the plastic started to tear and buckle inwards. Is that common for people to do when painting battletech sets? Would there be any reason not to do it?

Tbh, imo Bohun's work is probably the best money can money. Noone else quite manages the kind of lighting he achives.
Still, 500 bucks is above and beyond anything i would ever invest into a single 28mm miniature, no matter how awesome the paintjob is.

I have those models, and I would recommend superglue. It's a very hard plastic, poly cement isn't too good on it. Post them to your hearts content!
Onbly thing to be careful of...don't use too much glue. A VERY small amount is enough, if you drown it it'll look tyerrible.

ALWAYS prime. Black or grey spray primer is my recommendation. Especially on that shitty soft plastic most of those mechs are made of, straight acrylic will not go on well at all.

If you aren't bothered by Canon, I would just recommend 2 forces, one in some kind of camo green, 1 in camo grey. Both quick and easy to paint, distinct, and look both good and realistic.

I do it on all my mechs, even if I have to MAKE defects myself. Looks far better than "factory fresh" IMO.

Also using a hobby knife or a fine small file for the ridges, sand paper is quite hard to use unless you have large smooth surfaces. Also having some epoxy putty handy is great for minies and scale models, either the harder, easier to shape "green stuff" or then the more runny extra fine milliput are what I use, milliput is better at filling holes, green stuff works when you need to do something fancy.

Assuming I use a tiny amount of glue, how hard is it to scrape off again? (e.g. if I want to re-pose the model or something)

Sounds good. Is there any way that the forces would be traditionally split? The obvious answer seems to be right up the middle by tonnage, but I know this game can have decent asynchronous warfare options too.
