    Steele apparently the new 1100cc tuono is amazing. "Best engine note in motorcycling" gets repeated a lot by reviewers. How has the reliability been on yours so far?

    The MT-10 looks good, but reviewers have sided with the s1000r over it in the comparisons I've seen. I'm not keen on the looks and it's practically the same price as the s1000r and the tuono 1100.

    I'd love to try them all out... We'll see where I get with the other dealers. The BMW event was a manufacturer demo day thing.

    Some weeks back I tested both the MT-10 and S1000R back to back.
    The MT-10 was jerky and twitchy while the S1000R is silky smooth, surgical precision.
    The BMW wins in every category, far superior hardware and software. But you also pay extra.

    I'm swapping to the S1000R next year, there's no competition to it.
    Why is it called earth, when it is mostly water???

    The old ones, definitely not fun to look at, since the facelift and the ninja-esque front ... I like them quite a lot

    Completely agree on the smoothness, though I haven't tried the Yamaha yet. The thing is, the MT-10 (FZ-10) here in Canada is $15,499 MSRP while the S1000R is $15,150 MSRP. The Aprilia Tuono v4 1100rr is $15,595. So the BMW is also the cheapest of these bikes. That said I'm not sure how much the package costs that has the electronic suspension. Looking at these costs we actually pay less for bikes here than in the US. The one time in my life regional pricing is working in my favour.

    Both the Dynamic and Sports package is "required" for the S1000R, so it will probably be an 10-15% extra in price.

    The V4R is £14k in the UK, whereas the S1000R and MT-10 are just £10k. The 1290 is about £14.5.

    My Tuono is 12 years old now and 35k miles but is pefectly fine, had no issues tbh. edit - and mine is 2 or 3 models junior to the current model, and a V2 rather than V4

    I'm a member of the Aprilia FB group and whilst people rave about the V4R, quite a few have bene having issues with it too. Electrics IIRC.

    I'd only be changing next year (if I do) so plenty of time for issues to start appearing on any onf these new bikes.

    I also do not understand the desire or logic to buy new. At least from a continental european POV. Most bikes are totally underused and, with factory dealer record, as good as new if bought used, but significantly cheaper.
    A 1290 SD from 2014 with factory dealer warranty and 25-35kkm is about 11500eur here. Considering that the SD has not had any significant updates, if i was looking for a bike i would rather get a 30kkm one for 11k than a new one for 18k.

    Not sure if I'd buy new or not now. Only way to be sure it hasn't been fucked about with.

    I'd never buy a new car though.

    The Canadian motorcycle market is hurting... Right now there are hardly any of these supernakeds for sale used, and often they are only 1-2k less than new, but have no warranty. For that money I'd rather have new, with warranty.

    The only used KTM SD 1290s in Ontario are up for more than my local dealer is selling his for. Still not sure why he's asking $2k less than msrp.

    Yeah - it's difficult here. I did find a SDR in Vancouver for $15,500 but it sold before I had the opportunity to get mine. Mine was 2015 with 0km from the dealer, and yeah if I could have found a good one second hand then sure.

    Still, all 8,000km on it this season is all me, so it is nice knowing the history.

    Am also considering a barely used CB1000R. Those things can be picked up for just over £5k with barely any miles on it. Bit boring, but will last forever.

    Would have to try one first though.

    Ok maybe I underestimated the broad market we have here. Used vehicles here, from factory dealers, are almost always available and at dirt cheap prices (same for cars).

    Maybe worth importing?

    Using your previous example of the 2014 SD 1290 with 20k km for 11500 eur, after converting to CAD that's $16700. MSRP is around $18000 CAD and my local dealer has a 0km 2016 for $16300. So importing would not make any sense when I can get a new one for cheaper. Since the Canadian economy isn't doing so hot motorcycle prices have dropped. Usually I'm a used only guy (bought 5 used vehicles and 0 new) but for this purchase it actually makes sense.

    Sheesh man, you got me thinking, importing a new one to .de, however i believe i will have to pay 20% vat on top of your price.

    So my crashed bike has been evaluated now and all in all i'll get almost more money back than i invested (well, not if i add insurance and service-costs ofc)... reason are some discounts i got when i bought stuff, but are now no longer avaiable. So glad i got full insurance.
