I hope the usual ballet of Quislings will not be enough to prevent an appropriate response with so much at stake here.

Any puppet installed will be overthrown by Ukrainian’s pretty quickly and back round we go. USSRLite's population further sinks into the mire with sanctions, causing more mis-directed bitterness and hatred. All western facing countries bordering USSRLite push for NATO membership to avoid Putins stupidity, causing even more issues in the future. Meanwhile the Ukrainian people suffer. Grain prices increase causing already cash strapped families at the lower end of the financial spectrum to suffer and become belligerent. Energy prices increase, see previous sentence. Western nations are seen as weak and unable to prevent suffering on a global scale. Authoritarian regimes follow the USSRLites playbook and try to snatch resources/land. Shit hits fan.
