Having lived through 30 something years of the Cold War you realise that proxy wars do not lead to WW3 as everyone loses if that happens. Putin may or may not be declining with age but he is surrounded by people who will be turned to ash or will spend their last days in a bunker that stinks of potatoes and BO if nuclear weapons are used.

It would require an genuine invasion of Russia's territory by NATO before nuclear weapons were even seriously considered as a viable option. The Russians like to scare people because they are actually weak both economically and militarially. It's a bluff and it needs to be called.

Pretty much this. Putinīs coatriders will at some point drop him if they see their own wellbeing and future threatened by something stupid like a nuclear strike and and this point I am not even sure the combination of officer following that order and actually working hardware exists to make it happen on a large enough scale inside russia.

What are you on about? If Putin orders a nuclear strike, it will happen.

Interesting analysis of the UKR strategy in dealing with Russia.

I agree that he’s bluffing, I’m just saying that IF he gives the order, it will happen. It’s not like an officer drone will refuse to do it, especially since his refusal will result in getting shot.

Wrong. There's no single officer to carry out the order and no single button to push. It's a pretty complicated procedure which if initiated will result in Putin being very firmly but politely asked to drink the tea just given to him by his closest partners in crime that prefer not be glassed during retaliatory strike.

Unverifiable source ofc, but has a ring of truth to me. Inside view of what it's like being a low level Russian soldier in Ukraine

    https://twitter.com/ChrisO_wiki/stat...33316578631681

https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1...578631681.html because it's 43 goddamb tweets and life is short.

10/ "In the morning, our regiment’s zampolit [political officer] arrived. He said we are going to Satan’s ass, so those who want can refuse right here at the farm, since later he won’t be taking anyone back if someone wanted to return.
11/ One man refused – praporshik [ensign] Vasiliy from Moscow. Everyone else went."

It wasn't a good sign that the unit's senior NCO didn't want to fight. Shayga later found that its starshina [first sergeant] also kept himself out of the fighting.
/ "Many company commanders in the two battalions of the 752th regiment told their fighters that we are being sent to a sure death, since the Ukrainians are well prepared."
17/ "So they said – decide for yourself if you want to go or not. Four fifths of us (if not more) refused to go. So did I ... because I simply had no physical energy to keep going into an assault."
Fucking LOL. I know I'm laughing about men knowingly being sent to their deaths but this is beyond satire.

24/ Special forces (spetsnaz) and airborne units also attempted to take Dovhen'ke but were repulsed. A unit of trained reservists arrived and spent a month assaulting the village. "In total, 340 of them arrived in Ukraine. After a month of shelling only 57 remained."
They never got close enough to do backflips while throwing knives, unfortunately.

    There's more. It gets worse.

You do understand that one side has totaly commited? Its not a proxy war for Russia.
When I see a bird that walks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck id call it a duck.
And if the bird denies to be a duck it is a russian duck.

Russia does not view itself as part of anything. They view themselves as above or better because of the incessant brainwashing of the "glorious victory" of WW2. The simple fact and uncomfortable one to many of the is that at best the soviet army lost 4 soldiers for every axis soldiers killed, 10 tanks for every axis tank destroyed and 10 planes for every one of the axis destroyed. They lied then as they lie today attempting to project an image of a "fearsome beast" while the truth was that they "won" an almost pyrrhic victory with catastrophic demographic consequences that still echo today. And that WITH LEND LEASE behind them. Coming in our days, Putin is recruiting 30k fresh, no previous military experience needed, just to plug the front line.

    Look I’ll simply your life.
The Cold War is back from a sabbatical. It’s tanned, it’s rested. A combination of Chinese opportunist, Western Globalist ineptitude, kleptocracy on all sides and a former KGB Col. Turned Politician turned Dictator with ambition to be made Czar of the NeoRussian Empire. Has resurrected the Cold War like Sauron from Lord of the rings.

You do understand that NATO has not committed a single service person?

Wrong. There's no single officer to carry out the order and no single button to push. It's a pretty complicated procedure which if initiated will result in Putin being very firmly but politely asked to drink the tea just given to him by his closest partners in crime that prefer not be glassed during retaliatory strike.
True, but : If Russia uses a Tactical nuke in Ukraine, there will be no Glassing of Moscow. There will be outcry and china will have a very hard time to keep associating with russia.
That might keep them from using one, but not fear of retaliation from the west. Russia knows there won't be any.

    There won't be nuclear retaliation.

There will be abroad spectrum of other kinds of retaliation. Who knew that Ukraine had some attack subs in the Baltic that were capable of launching enough missiles to wreck the Baltic fleet's shit? Where did they suddenly get several hundred of those fancy 300km rockets from? Could have been sourced from any military surplus store, I suppose.

Yes but I'm not talking about tactical nuke in Ukraine but the kind useful idiots in the west are spreading fear about. Ie nuking London, Paris, Berlin etc. As these were the threats that were presented in russian national tv channels.
