Here's a question that came up in an interview with a German military historian (Sönke Neitzel) that I watched a couple of days ago (though the interview is from a couple of month ago). To which he had no answer.

The few railway tracks and stations that are used to ship (military) supply to the Ukraine are all well-known. Why does Russia not attack these instead of the other infrastructure they keep hitting? For the overall goal of weakening your enemy, those make more sense to be the primary targets.

They can do it in two ways:

    1. by bombing
But Russians don't have precision ammunition in large quantities. And Ukraine upgrade air defence with multiple layers, almost everything toss beyond frontline is shot down. Still they had some succes in terror attacks on cities close to frontline , with modified S300 missiles.

    2. by infiltration and sabotage
It is difficult to penetrate frontline or border from Belarus and I doubt they still have active spy networks to support and gather information left in Ukraine.

Hitting the supply flowing from NATO countries will lead to exactly one thing: NATO doubling down on delivering weapons, but also supply infrastructure.

    Aftermath

The panicked friendly fire between night patrols is the cherry on top, 3 soldiers and one policeman dead in the friendly fire, just shows the quality of Russian Army when they get wrecked by a police squad.

I take it he was part of the International Legion? How much autonomy and operational discretion does the IL have?

Ukrainian pilots have completed test flights in Gripen. Sim & actual planes.

Swedish Airforce been given order to see how many if any planes they can spare and time to replace them with new planes.
Assuming they get confirmations from Denmark, Norway & Finland to help patrol/control their air space.

One of Sweden's most respected newspapers, DN, writes that Ukrainian pilots and technicians have arrived in Sweden to train on JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets.

Ukraine is interested in acquiring 14-16 of the Swedish fighters jets.
In my opinion, Gripen is the right "gap fighter" for Ukraine. It's designed from the beginning to be remote, rough, semi-prepared runway capable. It's meant to be serviced and armed by two officers and a gang of 5-7 lightly trained conscripts compared with F-16 will need for USAF grade airports.

I think it's mostly because repairing train tracks is trivial and is done within a day with a well functioning repair organisation. Hitting the trains and derailing them is a much bigger clean up task but that's a lot harder to do with long range missile strikes.

During WW2 both sides used to target railway tracks with ordanance that was time delayed to make sure the tracks took longer to repair since repair crews understandably wouldn't work with an unexploded 250 kg bomb sticking up between the tracks.

Seeing reports that Ukraine put one of those keen sea drones onto another Russian ship. Extent of damage caused, if any, TBC.

I've been seeing a lot of memes where Poland is chomping at the bit to fight Russia. Is this just a running joke or is there some truth to this?
