p. much my feelings as well. Enterprise, Disco, and Picard are all cool story ideas that just got trashed by bad showrunning.

Which reminds me that his side-story of working for Star Fleet's intelligence agency was also a good idea, but implemented meh IIRC

To be fair that was most of the plots in Enterprise. They had some really good ideas, the arc in season 1 notwithstanding, but seemed to really struggle to tell the actual stories.

I'm going to stick by my guns. Seasons 3 and 4 of Enterprise (excluding the obligatory Nazi episodes) were really good 'Trek'.

Pity it got cut so short when the story was just getting going.

That was its charm and main draw at the time.

The mirror universe episodes are also awesome. Too bad we never got a TNG mirror universe episode.

That was a fantastic moment. But it wasn't a twist. It was an event. We saw him get abducted, so the audience knew that something was going to happen.

TBH if I hadn't knew beforehand what was going to happen I would've expected the crew of Enterprise to pull off some miraculous rescue out of their collective bums.

I did not hate it. More seriously,

exploring a classic Trek story with the twist that the person who saved the crew was a lowly ensign who technically went awol being given no recognition and the senior staff taking all the credit, that ain't a half bad idea. I'm enough of a R&M fan to not really care about the style, the animation is pretty much identical to that show but it works fine and the characters are distinct enough to feel unique. I giggled at the opening credits. The main characters could get old quick, so we'll see. Also the design of that ship is pointlessly inefficient, hopefully there's a joke about that at some point.

Right now I'd put it in the same wheelhouse as The Orville, clearly being made by people who actually watched and enjoyed Star Trek, however you feel about the humor, which makes it better than any nu-trek (with my usual exceptions of Beyond and Calypso).
