Not an argument that anyone here made? We're all keenly aware of the limitations of the older shows as well.

Of course it uses updated audio and visual cues. You do not want a Star Trek show shot in a broom closet under a loud ceiling fan. You maybe think you do, but you don't.
Also not an argument that anyone here made? Yetide Badaki killed as Una's lawyer, the content of the speeches was good, it had not one but two fantastic Spock moments. My problem was with the way these elements were smothered under a nearly suffocating blanket of soundtrack because, again, the showrunners do not trust their audience to get it.

Though honestly if I could change one thing about the ep. it would be that the trial had no business being video broadcast to anyone, anywhere. In the story we're meant to believe that Starfleet wants desperately to keep the incident a secret and sweep everything under the rug, but the whole bridge crew of the Enterprise gets to watch the footage of the episode so they can... have some dramatic reaction shots? Keep the crew in the dark, and make their stressing over the outcome part of the story. We don't allow cameras in those kinds of courtrooms for a reason.

Well, seems like we are both dissatisfied with different aspects of the episode. So, maybe my initial "not bad, not great" wasn't so far off?

Is it really unreasonable of them to treat their American viewers as if they're retarded?

So they dropped the crossover episode today (yesterday?) because of ComiCon or something, idk.

And it's everything I hoped it could be. Seriously, 10/10, no notes, exceeded all of my expectations, I'm still vibrating slightly.

This was a fun episode. Lower Decks characters continuing as cartoon or going over to live action?
Why is it called earth, when it is mostly water???

Do you mean, like, are they going to do more crossovers? No one's mentioned it as far as I'm aware.

That was a really fun and goofy crossover. I was afraid it would wander into cringy territory but they pulled off keeping everyone's personas somehow fitting into the story.

So I came late to ST in general, but season 2 was some good telly. I have not seen any other star trek show in completion, but are they all this good?

I finished ST:TNG today, took me a couple of months with 2-3 episodes a day.
Last two seasons was pretty weak tbh.
Think I have seen it all now.

No, they're quite a mixed bag. In chronological order:

The Original Series - Ambitious, ahead of it's time, made very cheaply, still reeks of 60's sexism. There are some genuinely great episodes, and it's v. easy to see the influences and story beats that later creators would pick up and run with. But it's also much, much slower than anything modern, and as with all 60's TV you need to be in the right mood to vibe with it.

The Next Generation - Foundational for a whole generation of Trek fans. Seasons 3-5 are where the really good stuff is at, like Var pointed out the last two are kind of weak, and the first two are completely skippable except for the episode The Measure of a Man. There's many good reasons why people love this show. Has hands down the best series finale of any Trek.

Deep Space Nine - The first Trek with a larger serialized story. This one's my personal favorite, 'cause when it's firing on all cylinders it's still the best Trek ever made in terms of writing, characters, and acting. As with all Treks the first season and a half is a bit shaky, but once they find the groove it gets real, real good. Strong recommend, it will reward your patience while it finds it's footing.

Voyager - Kind of uneven, there are some great stories and some of the biggest stinkers. It is better than people tend to remember, but it doesn't particularly stand out either. The Doctor almost makes the whole show worth it just for him. Watch if you have a lot of time on your hands.

Enterprise - A prequel about the founding of Starfleet's exploration program. Also kind of uneven, I hadn't watched it since it aired and I'm slowly working my way through now. There's a lot to like, and they take the setting seriously in some fun ways. I seem to remember it falling apart a bit and then getting good again in season 4, sadly because the network didn't know what to do with it they never really got the chance to find their own lane, and got cancelled after 4.

Discovery - Also a prequel. There were some interesting ideas but overall it's a fucking slog, most of the time it seems like it's written by stupid people to whom smart people are indistinguishable from wizards. I really don't care for this one, and it's ending after it's 5th season airs.

Lower Decks - A fully animated standalone, the episodes are shorter and the pacing is way more frenetic, and as a comedy it's either going to work for you or not. But it also has the tightest character writing and best-planned stories of any version of Trek, every episode feels like you're watching a perfectly tuned piece of storytelling machinery. I personally love it, even if it does lean too heavy on 'memberberries at times.

Prodigy - Also fully animated, this time in 3DCG. Everyone who watched it loved it, but it's been cancelled after just 2 (i think?) seasons. Apparently it's written more as a children's show, but like, a good one.

Strange New Worlds - This one you know.

Love how you skipped Picard there, as if your subconsciousness was trying to protect you.

You're not wrong, I had honestly forgotten about it until you brought it up.

Picard - Seasons 1 and 2 are pure dumpster fires, just completely trash from top to bottom. Awful character writing, overly convoluted plots that make no sense, grimdark tone for no good reason. They're just bad. Just, bad. Season 3 is basically "what if we did a couple new Next Generation movies but they were good" and as pure nostalgia-bait sendoffs for the cast and crew, it works like gangbusters. You don't need to know anything about the first two seasons, because they only bring Picard himself and one other character over, and she's basically an entirely new character for season 3 anyway. It's very good if you, like me, suffered through the years of the TNG films being dumbass mediocre summer action flicks, but if you don't hold any special reverence for the TNG crew then there's not a whole lot there for you. It also has a v. rough first episode, but if you're curious then 1-4 function as a very nice standalone Trek movie.

I would suggest watching TNG first, picard season 3 after.

    Working on Star Trek: Voyager.
Just hit Season 4, the show really picked up when we encountered the Borg.
I like Voyager. The good episodes are good, and the bad very bad. Sadly they seems to be 50/50.
Hopefully the start on S4 is the new level of the show.
