It's made slightly redundent by the world matchmaking though. In theory you could do pretty fine with a normal 2-way WvW if youre throwing in a matchmaking system. 3 way is definitely more fun but in GW2's case it's not so much there to balance things (compared to, say, DAoC).

Also kind of worried that the whole thing will start to feel kinda pointless after a while. Really hoping for a proper Darkness Falls style controllable dungeon to fight over.

I picture WvW to end up being a lot like AB was in GW1. It has it's advantages, and there are always guilds who are completely focused on it, but the end result won't change the playing field much, and the more skilled team players will gravitate towards the less blobby mechanics(IE:GvG or Conquest).

Remember there is a global buff to exp/item find depending on how good your world is doing in WvW. So there is SOME incentive.
