When the Dollarhite family of Nixa, Mo., first started raising and selling bunnies as part of a lesson to teach their teenage son about responsibility and hard work, they had no idea they would eventually meet the heavy hand of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). According to a recent article covered in Breitbart's Big Government, the USDA recently ordered the Dollarhite family to pay more than $90,000 in fines because they sold more than $500 worth of rabbits in a year -- and if they fail to pay the fine by Monday, May 23, the fine will multiply to nearly $4 million.

Small scale rabbit breeding is serious business apparently. Who knew?

The regional office sent him an application package that same day. However, Mr. Dollarhite never applied for a USDA license. After we conducted an investigation, we concluded that he has sold 619 rabbits without a USDA license. We issued a settlement offer to Mr. Dollarhite for $90,643 on April 19, 2011. This is a settlement offer only; he is not required to pay it and is entitled to request a hearing if he chooses. It is worth noting that $90,643 is not the maximum allowable civil penalty amount we could have sought.

Hmm let's see, he requested the paperwork, and never filed the paperwork, and he has the right to appeal the decision.

I dunno why you put "might" in there, he says himself that he sold $4,200 worth of rabbits in a year. Honestly that figure is probably bullshit on his part, I doubt he was grossing <$10 per rabbit, considering he himself said earlier that he was making $10-15 per rabbit. Not to mention his laughable claim of netting a mere $200 on $4,200 in sales. Who the fuck would raise rabbits for $0.45/head in profit?
