Getting in shape/not caring fitness thread

Thought I'd revive this thread for future use.

Finally broke my deadlift drought to 170kg but with the upcoming holiday/working away from home I won't be able to work out for 2 weeks at the very least so hopefully won't lose too much progress

    Useful links:
Exrx.net - good site to search for exercises. has gifs of the exercise being performed with good form as well as the mechanics behind the lift. Look here if you don't know what an exercise is or just want to browse what exercise hits what.

If you want to add something else, post it here n ill put it up, might take a little while due to my absence

Thanks to Blutreiter, eshru, formos funnus and misan for the suggest additions to the resource list.

Also remember that swimming is pretty good cardio to, esp in between your lifting days, helps relax muscles if you take it easy or gives em a real workout if you go hard

Glad to be back on the bike again now that I've settled into the new place somewhat. Especially for my left knee which developed a ligament issue a few weeks back; since then I've noticed it will click after about 30 seconds of riding, but it feels "better" afterwards and certainly bends a lot more freely after a few km.

I suppose I should go find a doc or physio or something to be sure. vOv

Re: Getting in shape/not caring fitness thread

So, after being a slow bastard and general lazy for years, I joined the army.

I have thus far been in here for alittle over two months and I have NEVER felt this good in my life. The fact we do BRAK (swedish for Legs, Back, arms and knees) 4 times a day, we do proper training atleast two times a week (running the mile, intervals etc) together with the constant strain we feel during the training - it's bloody amazing!

Gone up 5 kg of muscles, can do 2-3 times as many push-ups etc in one go. My beep-test went from a bad 7.5 up to a soild 9.8 and my posture is a hell of a lot better. My back and shoulder -problems have decreased alot aswel.

Feels good man, could probably sum up a week of training just to compare to what a "normal" active person would do. Might be interesting.

The sad fact is going to the gym or going for a jog a couple of days a week is better than most people, over here anyway. Obesity failtrain here we come....

You should throw bodybuilding.com up there; as long as you don't listen to the random new posters and follow the stickies, it's a great resource for muscle gaining (ofc), fat loss, nutrition, and general fitness.

This is a pre-emptive "fuck you, you are dumb" to anyone who posts about avoiding diet and other aspartame-sweetened drinks during a weight loss/fitness regime.

Tbh from personal experience its better to do different exercises targeting the same muscle groups than doing the same exercises over and over again, keeps it more interesting as well.

Soon to go to gym again to do cardio because that seems to be hard to do at home.

bodybuilding.com has some good resources but a lot of the forums are really whack such as misc or nutrition. the workout journal subforum is good tho.

    www.exrx.net

A good site with a lot of information about exercises, common injuries, the causes and how to get rid of them by stretches/other exercises etc. Aka, take a look there, pretty good site.

The site has gotten a bit slower at publishing new articles since it launched, but everything they have up there is very solid. The recommended reading list is also excellent.

Leangains has some good posts about training as well, I'll dig them up in a bit. The one about alcohol and training is always useful.

Yay, new getting in shape thread. Dear diary, did 76kms today on the bike, averaging more than 29km/h. :feelsgoodman:

Apparently I was misheard when inviting someone to join me climbing Alpe d'Huez by bike in Summer 2012, and we're doing it this summer instead. I better get crackin on this...

Not trained since thursday and it's been a heavy weekend, drinking both nights, back in tomorrow to do cardio and then a weights session tuesday, hope I have recovered by then.
