Bounty Hunter ships are so damn awesome, expensive though.
Finally I can start my Insane playthrough and get the last bloody achievement that I am missing.
Also, the rebalanced weapons now mean that beams perform better than before. Cannons got nerfed across the board. Missiles are now more useful, since all Hulls got about doubled hitpoints. Overall... yeah, feels pretty good.
I've been grinding bounty hunter ships and I managed to get the brute (large) and compared to ships of the same size its crazy powerful. Been using it to destroy space stations to steal all the blueprints
That's a lot of changes:
Heh, I suppose that's a bit of a nerf to the Freighter - I got one of those at the earliest possible point in the game by attacking friendly ones when they docked with stations, then loaded it up with boosters to get 2 massively OP cannons at the front. It made a large section of the game go quite a lot faster (and mining in one of those is godlike with 8 tractor beams).Changes:
- Projectile 20% weaker vs. Shields.
- Projectiles 12.5% weaker vs. Armor
- Projectiles 33% weaker vs. Hull
- Explosives 12.5% stronger vs. Armor
- Explosives 20% stronger vs. Hull
- Energy 10% stronger vs. Hull
- Specialist drop chance 150% higher
- All hulls have 100% more health
- Mass Bomb secondary explosions 20% sooner
- Individual Star system tech level spending rebalanced to prevent grind
- Reworked tech tree to be deterministic and evenly distributed
- 50% more research blue prints distributed on game start
- Energy Burst Cannon damage lowered 25%
- Zombie critter damage 33% lower
- Zombie critter max population 33% lower
- Point defense damage increased 50%
- No faction relation changes on mothership assaults
- Weapon boosters 20% less effective
- Huge core mining beam available on any huge beam mount
- Torpedoes do 20% less damage
- Torpedoes have 50% less health
- Early story flow distributed better to prevent long system jumping grinds
- Double mount turret from 3 to 2 blueprints
- Fusion Beams 30% longer range
- Mass driver damage lowered 33%
- 4 Black boxes per huge hull from 6 (to combat Bounty Hunters better)
- If frame rate dips, effects are less likely to play.
- Gravity missiles from rare to uncommon
- Huge ship AI upgrade. Much better at attacking stations and kiting.
- High capacity reactor given better charge rate, only 5% less than basic.
- Double turrets from rare to uncommon
Fixes:
- Large goon pod pickups at mothership and beacon now report 10 goons instead of 1
- Round off error with Slaver bonuses.
- Optimization pass to many systems.
- Save game CRC checker to prevent corruption

£1.74 well spent- loving this! Got to level 30 or so with no problem, but found that I am getting my ass handed to me even though I've backtracked to easier systems, like lvl25 or lvl20. I suspect I rushed through :-\
Couple of questions though- am still on the recover Titan part mission and it stuck the part to retrieve about 8 systems away, and I had to pass through a lvl32 to get to it- is this OK or a bug?
Secondly- on a gate camp in, for instance, a lvl25 system, guarding a gate into a lvl 30 system. Will the UTA be lvl25 or lvl30 or is it based purely on how tough you are?
Its not a bug, the systems you have to pass though to get to the next quest are just randomly created. I think a high lvl 30 would be the hardest you would have to get though. Its worth trying to get a good large ship before you do that mission tho just to make it easier. A good way to get a nice ship is attack a bounty hunter base and kill the 1st wave of support ships then mass retreat. Then keep doing that till you have the Brute or some thing.
it will indeed be lvl 30 ships guarding the gate as its kind of a test. If you can handle the guard you can handle the system as well.
nice, thanks. I did assume the gate guards were tech level of the system they were guarding but wanted to be sure
This game is indeed pretty nice, been passing my flu days conquering the galaxy

Insane with the Bounty Hunters is fucking unbelievably hard and unfair.
Since they balanced out a lot of overpowered equipment, you no longer have some exploit you can use to give you a sorely needed edge. I currently find myself AFK mining in order to buy goons in order to exchange goons for science. Rinse and repeat every hour.
Currently at Tech Level 32 in the second chapter. I have respecced several times to tackle different missions as needed, which also throws my tech advancement off by a huge margin every time...
...overall it is extremely painful right now. I am stuck on some gatecamp defender combinations where I get blown up (including the beacon) in less than 3 seconds. Not kidding. Enemy Volley with Gravity Missiles and 2 Mass Bomb ships plus a Sunspot completely fitted with arseloads of Point Defense.
Sweet Jesus have mercy.
Ahh I just overextended myself, and lost all my moneys and ships...
What a fantastic game.
If anyone is trying this and raging at buggy amd opengl drivers (latest ones) - set cpu affinity for spaz.exe in process manager.
I've got three extra copies in my steam inventory if anyone wants this game. Just add me on steam, snowdundr or spasm.

Still have one copy left.
