congratulations, Bitcoin is quite literately helping kill the planet faster.

there is something deeply poetic about the whole thing, as the planet cooks we're turning out dedicated chips from quite polluting factories in order to create a increasingly valuable virtual currency trough maths with no actual purpose attached, i'd call it peak capitalism, but i don't think we're there yet.
    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.

How many wars have been fought for gold or oil. Once we decide to give something value, it has value. No amount of hand wringing will alter this.

Hey. At least the giant conch is relatively safe now.

It's almost as if accumulating abstractions of labour time in the form of hoardable tokens is fucking retarded.

    Who'd have thunk it?

It's also fitting to point out that oil and gold actually have real world applications

Bitcoin is just another Fiat currency

Fiat currencies are strongly linked to the economic performance of their issuing countries. They have no intrinsic value but they are not toally unbacked like Bitcoin is.

Gold had literally no practically use until electronics. It’s too soft for us to do anything with it except use it as a store of value (and art).

Apparently not the entire human race for it’s entire history of commerce (which predates most economic theory by millennia)

That ancient society had no ability to use other than aesthetically or as a store of value.
