Just go to Bondi and hang out with all the Poms. Your dole will still be paid.

A new craze sweeping the Internet known as "planking" has claimed a life in Australia with a man attempting the fad plunging to his death from a balcony Sunday.

Planking involves someone lying flat on their stomach with their arms against their bodies in unusual and sometimes dangerous situations, with photographs of their exploits shared through social media sites.

It has gone viral in recent weeks with Facebook page Planking Australia boasting almost 10,000 fans and hundreds of photos of people lying on train tracks, escalators, fire hydrants, motorbikes, and other objects.

Police last week warned "plankers" of the dangers they faced and their worst fears have been realised with the death of a man in Brisbane who plummeted from the seventh story of an apartment block and died at the scene.

"This morning we have seen a young man take this activity a step further and attempt to plank on a balcony. Unfortunately he has tragically fallen to his death," Queensland Police Deputy Commissioner Ross Barnett told reporters.

The man and another person had been out during the night and were planking in various locations on their way home.

"It is what we've been fearing," he added, but could not say whether it was Australia's first death from the craze.

Last week, a 20-year-old, also in Queensland state, was arrested after being allegedly found "planking" on a police car and charged with being on police equipment without lawful excuse.

    The first comment:
Plank pretty much says it all

Net censorship got backburnered and then buried. The current parliament is a minority centre-left government that could never get it through anyway, as every member in an urban district knows they'd face a massive challenge from the Greens if they voted for it. And as Australia has compulsory voting the 18-35 voting demographic that is basically absent in other countries due to disinterest can flip a seat damned fast. So apart from the small cadre of Christian Looneys and their corporatist panderers nobody will touch it. And it was never going to get through the Senate anyway, where a progressive party holds the balance of power and has done so for quite a while.

Of course, a review of the horribly derpy Classification for Sale laws that got the whole thing started was also buried, as it's political suicide to say "Let's take a close look at making BDSM pornography legal, because the rules that ban it are old and stupid", even though outside of the aforementioned looney cadre I don't actually think anyone's against the idea.

Jesus H. donkey-raping Christ...Compulsory voting...The chavs!! The knaves! THE TYRANTS!!!! What the fuck is this Represent Your Wills bullshit?!
It's almost like if people died for your Sovereignty and the least your Youth/Middle class can do is get what they want...

When do they plan to quietly overturn that law, claiming it's counter-democracy? Is that even possible in a rational nation with a Progressive Upper House of Representation?

Lusulpher, I read your entire post and I have no idea if you are for or against compulsory voting. To remedy this I read your post another three times and now my brain is made of paste.

(Compulsory voting is interesting. Instead of pandering to the fringes, both parties pander to the center. The more power a party gets the less well defined their policies become.)

Now it's nearly 110 US cents to an AUD and the retail outlets have never changed their prices.

I have access to a US credit card, though, so .
