Yea, 221km/h and 53G on impact. And he somehow stayed concscious and climbed out of the wreckage and over the barrier himself

And all he got from it are light burns on his ankles and wrists where the gaps in his suit were.

    Absolute madness.

Considering the deformation to the barrier, fire and the complete splitting of the vehicle, i am utterly amazed he didn't even have any serious injuries.

He either got lucky or, more likely, all the safety features came together and did the job the engineers designed them for. I would quite like to know if the splitting of the car is a feature, as the engine block + gearbox are a significant prorotion of the vehicles weight, deflecting somewhere else to the driver during a collision would be a sensible idea, but the tolerances for the shear points would have to be fully considered due to the stresses the chassis is under during normal multi race conditions.
Shitting up eve for .... well, longer than most of you scumbags.

Apparently it's the angle he hit the guard rails from - being able to literally split em apart...and then hitting the anchoring post behind it, breaking the chassis apart while the monocoque got stuck in the guardrails.

That's the remaining monocoque, you can even see his neck brace still hanging there.

It's pretty much still intact, just burnt to shit.

Save by the halo tech it seems. Absolutely amazing Grosjean walked away from that. I think he has a couple of broken ribs and burnt hands.

As Wolff said: "The car breaking shouldn't happen - the rear should break off with the engine and not the engine staying on the chassis."
Sounds like the rest of the car splitting from the "survival cell" (which should more entertainingly always be referred to as "monocoque") is expected to happen in a very bad accident, but the engine should break off from the monocoque with the rest of the rear.

In crashes (controlled) deformation is always good, it absobs the energy. Compare a modern car to one from eighties and the modern one will get all kinds of crushed and deformed in crash and the one from eihties seems to suffer less, other than the engine moving thru the drivers seat, while the modern car keeps the passenger compartment intact while everything else crumbles.

Im counting ~25 seconds from impact to him staggering from the wreckage. Thats a long time in a blazing inferno.

F1 introduced race suits that can be ignighted and survive for 20 seconds this year. The gloves are only mandated to last 10 seconds, like the entire race suit was last year. Which is why Bottas was complaining about how hot they were race one.

Grosjean also would have died on impact without the halo. You can see where it has imprinted on the armco barrier.

He is a terrible, dangerous driver who from day one has caused a ridiculous amount of crashes and smashes. Thankfully this absolute danger will never sit in a F1 car again. Glad he survived his ticking timebomb of a career without seriously hurting himself or others.

Remembering Grosjean crashing behind the safety car will never not make me laugh

Hamilton is out of this weekend's race due to a positive covid test. Who does Mercedes have as back up drivers?

The safety features of the car plus a massive amount of luck is what saved him. That combination of crash is that "0% chance that it happens" which kills.

Stoffle the waffle is their reserve driver.
Might stick a hulk in there though, as per fashion?

He isnt being resigned by Haas for next season, and no other team would be retarded enough to put a flying missile into their car. All the drivers hate him too tbh. Whiny danger

You'd have to liquify and pour me into the Monocoque.

Ah, got it. And that makes sense, probably could have figured that out. :P Thanks!

Knowing very little about F1, I decided to look into this. Holy balls, you weren't kidding: https://bleacherreport.com/articles/...mula-1-history
