Glad you like it - it just needs content now, really. I've done all I can aside from perceptual hashing which is complex and difficult enough to warrant some seriously quality time spent on the plan before I implement. I'm borderline certain I may end up writing an academic research paper on this if I do end up managing it nicely - hashing's been done before, doing 2 dimensional array mapping of perceptual data for rapid large-set dedupe is something fairly new...

Speed was my main motivator for doing this. There's other booru software than shimmie already (danbooru is open source and Rails, like mine) but they're all quite bloated and clunky, having succumbed to feature creep and being based on old SQL-limited architectures. Fast, scalable and ruthlessly efficient is what I've been aiming for.

Animated thumbnails were murder to get working but do work rather nicely. Another nice thing is that all the thumbnails are generated on the fly and then cached by a HTTP cache layer sat in front of the app, so I can actually do quite complex things with the images. I have some ideas for other views of the site ("wall mode" will be 100% fullscreen, no menu or anything (maybe a basic one), grid of images filling the screen, constantly updated as new ones are uploaded, for instance) which I'd like to implement.

As for clop... well, add some and it'll be there, just don't forget to tag questionable/explicit and anything else relevant

For what ever reason your links can't decide whether to serve the image or the comment page and so only display half the time. You should try following the source and linking the image from there, or rehost on imgur, etc.

Plus, then you won't have to worry about shattering anyone's fragile sensibilities with that site

I think it's because "that site" apparently massively crashed sometime around the new year, thus ruining probably 7/10 of my posts in this thread. They're all linked properly as far as i'm aware, but even now, some of the images i posted earlier are refusing to load completely, (and some of them don't have their sources listed) so i can't even rehost them anywhere else... Like Ix Forres's new Derpibooru. I don't think i'd like to clutter my imgur with too much pony, sorry.

Also, really, no one's forced to follow the image links to the unholy hellspawn filled grounds of "that site". While there's nothing quite as fast as the speed of porn (which allows me to ninja some pics before they get posted on EQD, or find content that's not anywhere else, mainly 'cause of artists who's work mostly gets posted nearly exclusively on "that site"), offending your sensibilities is a risk you just have to take for all those possible rewards.

Anywho. I'll just have to wait 'til they get their shit together, i guess, then i can try and pick out the awesome content from "that site" without all the disgusting, extremely badly made porn. Only awesome porn for the new site!

I just finished reading the latest chapters and in terms of length this is a real whopper. It's probably around halfway through and currently sits at around 500k words, which is around 100k less than Fallout: Equestria. And to think it was first posted in October or something!

I gotta say, it's good. Really good. A very different thing from FO:E which comes the closest, but EoP is alot darker and probably more heartwrenching. And it's infinately heavier in terms of writing and language - this is first time I think the actual language and phrasing is just as important as story and characters.

Highly recommended if you have the time to read it, because it will take time if you want to really appreciate it.

Seriously though, never gonna happen. Impossible to do properly, mostly. And Flash is a horrible CPU-intensive browser-killing nightmare. Just imagine a frontpage with 40 different Flash movies all going at once.
