Random fantasy magical grimdark incarnation of Equestria in fanfics... good writers will make the reader hurt, but it can still be stomached. Its magic, it will all get better in the end, right? But taking our beloved canon Equestria, and showing how it went on sad path of industrialization and political tensions, ending with real honest to god nuclear war. Showing the fates of Mane 6, all so depressing and gray and sad. The survivors, trying to pick up the pieces.
Good SF writer will have reader feel pain, loss and sorrow if he describes nuclear war and consequences well. Entire world gone thanks to human flaws. Civilization and society shattered maybe forever.
And then FoE author came and subjected Equestria to that. I trust that FoE is a damn good fanfic. Worthy of citizen Kane applause gif, worthy of much more. But damn, I'm not touching it... Well maybe when season 3 starts and we get official dose of love and tolerance every Sunday.

Fallout Equestria is prob one of the best reads iv'e ever come across, to not read it is a crime against yourself
Project Horizons for all it's flaws is almost even better, it describes how we deal with pain in an absolutely fantastic way
To know they are out there and not read them is about as big of a mistake as you could possibly make, and i feel truly sorry for those who don't take the chance to enjoy some of the best literature written in the last few years on the basis of them being "to long" or "to scary"
