Accidentally put this in the planes thread.

Sounds recorded from inside the spacestation. One of the astronauts did this for a blind friend of his.

So what the fuck is that thing? The big rocket is an Energia booster, pretty much the most powerful rocket since the Saturn V. The big black Soviet cock on the back was called Polyus. Polyus was meant to be the heart of the Mir-2 space station, but had a few improvements over the original. Mainly the megawatt range anti-satellite/missile laser and point defense cannon. Polyus was the Soviet response to the Strategic Defense Initiative, and while the capitalists were arguing about the costs the Soviets built a fucking laser armed space battlestation and launched it.

That is where things went a bit wrong. For weight distribution reasons it was loaded onto the booster backwards, and was designed to separate and then spin 180 degrees before firing its final stage booster to launch it into orbit. However, when launched it instead spun 360 degrees, fired its booster and derped straight into Earth. Polyus ended its life in a blaze of glory over the South Pacific ocean, hopefully frightening some capitalists.
    She did what?

Capitalist propaganda mate. Shame really, it is literally one of the most awesome things ever (attempted) to be launched into space.

More info - planned upgrades were the ability to deploy nuclear orbital mines and a low-energy blinding laser to zap the sensors of capitalists.

Funny how they wrote mir on it. mir = world, peace

One of the few Russian words I know. However, one thing always vexed me: how do you say world peace?

Anyway, obviously it was disguised as a launch for the mir space station.

    >implying world peace exists

Well there is a saying "Mir vo vsem mire" which translates literally to "peace in the whole world". Obviously mostly used for lulz.

When going to space, machinery will eventually be good enough. We, on the other hand...

Only affects oldfags, also obviously linked to zero-g.

Any kind of prolonged artificial gravity will deal with this.

One of the comments from that article:
    DrMeatwad
",,, causing a significant shift in the eyesight of *male* astronauts. Doctors call it papilledema. *Female* space travelers have not been affected." - The answer is staring them right in the old kisser. Guys, can you see yourself riding along with Sally Ride all that time, and NOT getting that biological relief,,, if you catch me drift. Use uglier female astronauts and the problem is corrected.
My initial thought was a bit opposite - as in not enough "excitement", causing the blood to flow back into your head.

When Soviet spacecraft fail due to capitalist noble party prevents world from seeing failure and giving capitalist satisfaction of killing brave Soviet explorers. When capitalist space terror mission fail, president say this:

    She did what?

Most often I only reply to threads I posted in, I rarely check the forum itself.

Not a spaceship as such, but SpaceX's grasshopper tech is getting more and more impressive - 250 meters up and down into a crosswind, natch.
