First thing I thought of was a heads up display in cars. I've already seen them using the old 'project it at the right angle and we can reflect it off the glass' technique to get your speed and other important info in to the eye-line of the driver so they don't need to look down. Imagine what other useful info can be shown on the screen while you are driving so you don't need to take your eyes off the road for say GPS navigation or even changing the fsking radio station.

There are tones of potential uses, very few of them replace existing screens.
Yeah my dad has one of those little OBD connected screens that sit high up on the dash and reflect up onto a thin sheet of semi-transparent foil on the windscreen so he can see his speed more clearly. ARGUABLY he should just get his eyes tested rather than use this augment to avoid squinting down the barrel housing the speedometer, but honestly if it was integrated into manufacture, it'd be damn cool.

I can see screens like that being a big deal for shop fronts that might deal more in services than goods - if you're not worried about displaying goods in your window but can turn all that advertising estate into a dynamic display plus let in natural light? Really nice.

Now imagine a shop displaying goods being able to use them like virtual window frames, where you can see a good then use touch and/or gestures to pull up more information. This is something you'll start to see in high end boutiques and in a few years become ubiquitous.

also porn. somehow. i don't know how, but porn finds a way.

edit: wait, it's obvious. there will be a service where you hold the transparent screen in front of your knob, and who/whatever is on the screen interacts with it. so yeah, porn. as always.

Essentially a variation of Malcanis's law? Any new technology introduced for media entertainment benefits porn more than the intended content.

Actually the projected version is arguably superior, as that can put the focal point of the projection a couple of meters in front of your eyes, so you don't have to refocus your eyes as much when alternating between looking around you and looking at the heads-up display.

The reason these ideas fail is that AR inherently distracts you from the task before you. Even worse if, as Overspark said, you need to refocus your sight. The amount of cyclists that would drive against curbs because some useless info flashed before their eyes would be massive.

I could maybe come up with niche applications, if you combine it with a camera feedback system and real-time image recognition beyond what we currently have. Putting it in front of anything thats basically static would be fine, like a board game, or above a workspace. Maybe in an operating theatre, but i bet surgeons prefer as little between them and the patient as possible.

Ehh... If everyone sprayed everything with it "just because" then sure, but if it's used properly for repairs and whatnot I can see it being better for the environment than, say, tearing something apart and rebuilding it. Increasing the lifespan of things is something we need to do more of.
The polyurea coatings will last 20-30 years. It's got huge marine applications, better than the usual crap they use on the bottom of boats.

I dont know much about that new Coating but i do know that what is currently used is highly toxic as in it will eat your skin and leaks toxic shit in the ocean.
Source: a friend who applies it daily. Even the mouth filter that is used when applying needs to be replaced within 30 minutes (mostly done by machine tho). As i understood it a fresh done and dried ship needs to gtfo out of any harbour to spread the toxins around.

Yea the copper oxide they use in the paints are toxic and why it works on the underside of a boat. It sloughs off over time and has to be reapplied every few years, so you are dumping copper oxide into the oceans. Hopefully the newer, less toxic paints will get more popular soon.
