It's a middle class vote grabber. It has minimal appeal to the working classes.

Only if the middle class are the only ones with aspiration or a desire for better education.

Middle class is not working class? This some communist propaganda thing, or you talking like a Republican who thinks you need to make $200k a year before you are middle class?

According to some folks; you are only middle class if the larger part of your income is made from investments.

In the UK middle class broadly means white collar workers. Working class means blue collar.

They typically are (at least with higher education), my housemate is writing his masters' dissertation on the subject and there's a growing body of academics getting interested in the phenomenon.

A big problem in sociology at the moment is defining class, since the lines have been blurred by generations who were socially mobile between 1950 and the mid 80s, and then further blurred by the economic exodus from Britains' industrial heartlands in the north. There are several ways to define class, the academic (and I think lazy) way is currently looking at kids who receive free school meals; which is quite exclusionary but makes research and data gathering simpler. You can also look at the trajectory of socially mobile family units, self assessment of class (since class is also cultural, and the cultural aspects change much more slowly than the economic aspects), earning potential, cultural capital, precariousness of living etc.

Your posting has been boring and predictable recently. Did you open the curtains for 5 minutes and get severe sunstroke?

Au contraire, Edna mastered it years ago.

And this is not to the usual standards, I'm worried too.

    Viking, n.:
    1. Daring Scandinavian seafarers, explorers, adventurers, entrepreneurs world-famous for their aggressive, nautical import business, highly leveraged takeovers and blue eyes.
    2. Bloodthirsty sea pirates who ravaged northern Europe beginning in the 9th century.

Hagar's note: The first definition is much preferred; the second is used only by malcontents, the envious, and disgruntled owners of waterfront property.
