Yeah those ariweight revolvers really only work well in .38 Special. Ruger's airweight ( in .357 magnum) snaps WAY too much for my taste. Time to develop a good handload for it (heaviest bullet weight in .38 SPL case w/ minimum powder charge). Should have good stopping power and more of a push recoil rather than a snap.Quote:

In the case of pistols, there is only so much that you can do that will improve on it's functioning and handling until you get into IPSC shooting. Scout Mosin Nagant
Aftermarket stock with rubber buttpad for better handling and recoil reduction. Barrel is now free floated and probably recrowned. Long eye relief scope. I have one just like this and have taken plenty of hogs with it. Feels much better than the old wood stock and target practice doesn't result in a bruised shoulder anymore.

While I was picking up my Airweight, I was looking at a CZ-2075 RAMI at the shop. It seemed like a nice carry option, points well for me, and the trigger is nice but I noticed the slide release is a pain to reach, very slim and stiff. I've got pretty big hands, but I couldn't reach it with my thumb; seems like design forces you to pull back on the slide to chamber the first round of a fresh mag. Anyone have any experience with this pistol or know a bit about the design?

MREs today are pretty good even compared to ten years ago. The only one universally loathed in my experience is the omelette, although the "rib" sandwich one is definitely an acquired taste too IMO. I'm not sure what the legal requirements are for selling MREs, but the last time I saw a box it still said very clearly that it was illegal to sell them. Maybe that's just because those were government property. I guess the company that packages them might also sell boxes on the private market.
JSN'. I wouldn't mutilate my wartime antique Nagant in the name of tacticool but if the mood and spare cash aligned I might do it to one from '46 or later. I knew they made polymer stocks to replace the wooden ones but I was unaware they had rail systems as well. Might have to make a cost-comparison between buying a scope and rail mount versus buying a wooden Nagant with the scope already mounted (~700 dollars here in Florida, versus 100-150 dollars for one with the straight bolt and no scope.)Quote:

Real MRE's sit in the bottom of your stomach. The new "powerbars" on the other hand are pretty badass for a quick meal on the go. I've go a 12 pack box of MRE's at my house for emergency food storage in the case of natural disaster. I've had both. I was able to drill and tap the side holes in the receiver pretty easily and attached a traditional replica of the PU optic on an 1891. The replica mount and optic combo cost me about $200 at the time from Accumounts.com but I think the price has gone up. I've also done the polymer stock and scout mount. The mount just replaces the rear sight leaf and is pretty sturdy. I know one guy who took a torch to his and removed the rear sight. Apparently it's silver soldered on and there's a dovetail rail carved into the receiver. He mounted a standard scope to that and it works fine. At $90 a rifle you can pretty much do whatever you want to the things. The majority have no historical value.Quote:

Norinco SKS and a Glenfield .22 for plinking.
I've only been to one gun show in the last five months and didn't look at the Nagants, so I'm not 100% sure where they're sitting now in terms of price. They were increasing back in 2009 when the dealers were profiteering off of Obama's election. Prices for ammo have declined considerably since then, at least.Quote:

No, I'm not going to war. 1k isn't much. It's easy to expend 100 rounds in a little over an hour at the range, going slowly. This is for range shooting and buying in bulk is cheaper.

They dont really make them like that anymore, but a good condition karni (which is electropneumatic) is about $450. But you can get "like new" shocktech SFLs from as late as 2009. CCM do modern pump guns though that are really nice, could probably put pneumatics on the front. As far as the barrel kit, since I run a pump I just use the smallest bore (less rollouts) and havent really put them all to the test.

Well, I'm a new shooter, so I probably don't have great pacing, lol. I've had to delay range time til next week. :( My friend's grandfather may be willing to teach me, after all. He just about when apoplectic with glee went he found out my first gun is a Sig, as he is apparently fanatically joyful about them. \o/ The man's a (former) master marksman and custom gun maker, so he knows what he's doing.
Classmate of mine has a marksman badge and taught sniping with the Marine Corps. And I found out just yesterday :psyduck:

Marksman badge disqualifies you from even looking at a Sniper or Designated Marksman school. Those require no less than Expert (from least to greatest: Marksman -> Sharpshooter -> Expert). Scout/Sniper Instructors are usually older since the MOS requires a specified number of services years in the MOS before being allowed to apply for an instructor school slot. I think he used marksman as a civilian would, you know in it's most literal sense for a person who is a good shot. Also telling a civilian that you got an expert badge tells that person nothing. Much like CCP telling us something will be "awesome". He means a lower case generic marksman badge awarded by the military to people who are good shots, you mean the capital letter Marksman Badge awarded for knowing which end the bullet comes out.
Language, it can mean more than one thing.
each level of marksmanship has its own distinct badge with the qualified weapon class denoted below it. you can actually end up wearing two for example if you're Expert with a rifle (M-16) and Sharpshooter with a pistol (M-9)...etc.
