Move form 5.56 was long in the making. Even Arma 3 presented 6.8 as new NATO standard. It was an arms race between what was perceived as protection by modern armor plates (5.56 not even penetrating) and calibers. Only lately we have learned armor plates supposed to stop 5.56 in a major conflict are made out of cardboard and/or stolen iPads/Macbooks.

Arma 3 has 6.5 grendel as an adopted NATO caliber, not 6.8

Inrange has tested M855A1 against a bare russian level IV (NIJ) plate that costs 150 bux basically point blank and it didn't do shit. The video has been taken down because they made a teeny mistake but i am sure it still is afloat somewhere.

Did Inrange get the actual high pressure ammo or just the commercially available ammo? They are distinguished by the casings, high pressure has a steel/brass case, commercial is brass only. I haven’t seen that video but seen some other (TFB?) which had both types of ammo and mentioned that the brass training ammo performs a lot worse but has negligible recoil.

Are you talking about the testing they did? Inrange only tested 5.56 against Russian armour. This was years ago.

Ah I hadn’t watched their video on the new US rifle and thought they shot Russian armor with it. I guess I need to memorize US ammo designations (I won’t).

So how scary are the new rifle scopes? Or maybe "ballistic aiming systems" are a better name? And do they actually exist?

Reason I ask is that there was a couple of videos from Ukraine that claims to show a Ukr sniper taking out multiple Ruzz forces at 1300m using some sort of aimbot system.
At least that what it looked like, sight is moving around, is pointed at a smudge on screen, suddenly its dead stable almost tracking the target and the shot is taken.
Last video showed 3 guys getting taken out in 10 seconds, absolutely insane. IF its true...

Is it true? Does these things actually exist and what are they and how do they work?
And if they do exists, how come no one has screamed AIMBOT HAXXOR BAN BAN BAN yet?

I've seen youtube promotional material for a sniper rifle where you basically "tag" the target, and when the gun decides it is pointing in the right direction/angle/inclination/w.e. it takes the shot.

Kind of like this, but it was a different video. I guess there are more of those around nowadays.

I wouldn't be surprised if this existed now, years ago I tried a hunting rifle with a scope that told you where to aim based on distance and wind.

Went down the rabbit hole on this and yes, not only do they exist the plan is that when US Armed forces changes up to their next service rifle (with that bigger caliber) everyone gets these new type of scopes.
It will be given to specialists at first but the plan is for every regular soldier to have it in the end. There are currently 2 manufacturers in the running to deliver, I could only find info on one (the one above is not part of it).
If I understood it correctly the idea was accelerated based on the apparently insane success of current much less advanced scopes issued today as before field results from Afghanistan and Iraq came in US was not convinced.

And since they do exist, even for the civilian market, its not impossible that someone have either gifted a few or volunteers brought them to Ukr. Shits scary yo.

I swear I have seen these scopes on ukraine sniper videos. You see the guy in the distance, a crosshair appears over him adn the camera moves off center and boom, first time hit.
