Gun Thread (AK appreciation)

at risk of sound like a dumb eurofag, isn't body armour entirely useless in most situation where you'd 'realistically' want to defend yourself against a gun wielding aggressor? Mostly because you just wouldn't be wearing it when you needed it... seems a lot easier to either carry a weapon or have one to hand than to live your life wearing body armour 24/7?

*hear a noise outside your room at 3am* 'well it's a good job i went to sleep wearing body armour'.

yes. you have a universal law to contend with that it's going to be easier to destroy something than it is to preserve it, including your guts.

but there's obviously some people who are nuts about guns here, so when exactly did the idea of a pre-emptive strike with ultimate force become acceptable in society?

So lets disregard how my pistol stays loaded in my desk 99% of its time and the only time it fires is when i pull the trigger.

Clearly the pistol has some magical mind control that makes me shoot it.

People are assuming that the ONLY SOLUTION is to have EVERY TEACHER have a gun strapped to their hip.

Apparently other possibilities (Such as LETTING THE TEACHERS DECIDE IF THEY WANT TO GO THROUGH THE TRAINING IN THE FIRST PLACE, Acquire the firearm and then carry it, or maybe they arent carrying it! There are gun safes with biometrics, not to mention that the word concealed means you don't know its there.) just dont cross peoples minds.

Body armor is usually for static defense stuff. Protecting your home from whatever. Because of the way it's designed, you to put on body armor in under three seconds. You "prep" it by putting it on and getting the shoulder straps right and both side straps. You then undo one of the large side straps, slip out of the armor, then fold the flap against itself. When you need it you pick it up, slide through the side area that open, reattach the side flap, and viola'. You can do this with one hand while calling 911 (US emergency number) in the other. Some stand alone plate carriers are also pretty similar as they only have a single flap or buckle but provide much less overall bodily protection.

Eh? pre-emptive strikes have always been "acceptable" (or at least justified by the one doing the striking) since the first time a human picked up a rock and bashed another humans brains in.

As far as firearms go, traditionally the guidelines have been when the following two conditions met:
1) You have reasonable reason to believe that your life is threatened, and that the threat has a good chance of succeeding.
2) Use of lethal force is (within reason) the only way to protect your life

"reasonable" is the key, and subject to interpretation. Generally castle states allow you to assume that anyone desperate enough to break into your house while you're there is desperate enough to kill you.
