you could trivially end up needing to do that shit with any MG tho, firing until the barrel glows is a literal thing that is sometimes done, the sergeants i got my LMG training from made a point out of always bringing a old, basically worn out barrel and running it for long enough that it would glow to make the point of A : it doesn't take long to get to that point. B: this is how it actually looks, so keep a eye on the fucker and C : this is how you handle it, and you just wrecked the barrel in the process, dumbo.

To be fair, it was held together (poorly) with clamps, instead of being bolted or screwed on.
