More charitably, one could argue that he was simply pointing out that saying:
'I don't care if they did it because they're in need of money for bread, or because they're a career criminal, I'm going to put my life above theirs.'
involves making a moral judgement on the rightness of your intended actions, so to claim that the discussion does not involve morality is disingenuous. Doesn't necessarily mean that the moral judgement contained in the quote is wrong, just that it's there.
Or it could be a shitty troll.
I'm going to go with the last one. A lot of people say they would blow someone away, I've said it myself. But unless I felt my life is in danger? Idk.
The fact of the matter is how can you really tell what someone's intentions are, or if they are armed themselves? I might give someone a second to stop what they are doing and get down but if I think anything other than that is going to happen I won't give them the chance
Are you assholes done shitting up this thread yet?
You want to discuss morality, you make a post about it. Looking at you Samp.
Interesting logical tidbit for you: Saying it is about morality is not equivalent to saying it's immoral nor does it even imply that it is immoral. Moral things fall under the topic of morality just as much as immoral things. They're both about morality! So are things that are of questionable morality and things that some people think are moral and others think are immoral.
No really. It's true. Think about it! You may be absolutely blown away by what this type of logical analysis can get you!
Suffocating sarcasm aside: no, I wasn't implying anything. Just stating that a moral standpoint is, in fact, a moral standpoint. Sarcastically.
Almost hang on... *reads* wait yes, this is stupid.
Oh hey, i have something to say on topic. Which is odd for me. I've been interested in learning how to use a firearm for some time now despite the fact that I don't believe firearms should be available to the public and my affinity toward the canadian lack of guns. This is because guns are real and I would like to know how to use one if heaven forbid it comes up (I find most hunting repugnant incidentally). Also they look like fun.
But I have no idea if it's possible to do here or where to go if it is. I may have a lead from a friend who actually sells guns here and I know these shooting ranges exist somewhere around here, so I'm going to ask him.
Failing that, does anyone have any idea if it's possible to find a shooting range that will teach me what I need to know in Toronto? And failing that, when i next visit the states around the Portland area, if it's possible for me to shoot at things as a tourist?
I don't know the specifics of Canadian firearms law, but I'd be very surprised if they don't/can't teach basic firearms courses at certified ranges there. As far as the US goes? Bring a valid ID and you're fine, we've got plenty of gun handling courses here. Just make sure you pick a range that doesn't require you to be part of the NRA.

a real lack of gun pictures in this thread
I'm pretty sure almost everyone (even the die hard two in the chest one in the head fanatics), wouldn't shoot someone if they had the situation clearly under control, e.g. if the guy instantly spread eagle and started shouting not to shoot the second he realized the second he heard footsteps and realized the house wasn't empty.
How about this picture of every combustion based projectile launcher I took last offroad shooting trip with the local rednecks:

Followed by some senseless cruelty to fruit after we decided it was way to cold to eat the watermelon (yes we picked up all those shells afterwards):

Okay, so this is AK-12 by the same IzhMash.
Same AK system but the cover is fixed on bolts and opens up-forward. Therefore it can support top-mounted sights and shit.
Charging handle is linked to the gas piston (ala HK G3), fire selector is double-sided.
Two versions are planned - 5.45, 5.56, grendel and 7.62x39 are the first, second is 7.62 NATO (lolwhy).
Oh and picatinny rails everywhere as you can see. Optional railless handgruard for grenade launchers.
Bullshit tbh, any AK (M or 74M) with swallow's tail rail is flawless imo.
Samp, stop shitting up this thread.
P sexy AK imo.
I had to google this thing. I'm impressed. The Russians have finally paid attention to western gun tech and are starting to come around.
From the article:
According to Max Popenker there will be two models, a Light model (5.45x39mm, 5.56x45mm and 7.62x39mm) that accepts all magazines that work with existing AK rifles, as well as a new 60 round quad stack magazine, and a Heavy (7.62x51mm) model that will use a new magazine.
The rifle's major new features are ...
Ambidextrous forward charging handle.
Smaller ejection port.
New safety switch.
New fire control switch with three modes of fire (single shot, 3 round burst and full auto).
New hinged top cover. The cover is a lot more rigid that the previous AK rifles.
Quad picatinny rails.
Folding and length adjustable stock.
Ergonomic pistol grip (with a decent radius between trigger guard and grip).
New muzzle brake that attaches to standard NATO 22mm threading.
Improved barrel rifling.
It's like they tried to make an SCAR into an AK. On the upside, if fixes a lot of the ergonomics that western AK customizers have been doing for decades now. The ambi charging handle and safety is a big plus and no more having reach under or over the rifle to charge it. Integral rails are another big plus as is the new formed pistol grip which is a HUGE improvement over the uncomfortable box design pistol grip inherent with all AK's.
Things I don't like:
-The barrel profile is almost like the Government profile barrel on the M4. This has been a big issue of late and everyone is moving away from it. While it reduces weight it also allows the barrel to heat up pretty fast. It also looks pretty thin, like an M16a1 pencil barrel looked.
-Rails on the upper receiver. This is going to be no doubt where optics get mounted. Unfortunately that upper receiver is a detachable piece and won't hold a zero too well. This isn't an issue at 20m but if you're using an RDS or whatever pass for an ACOG over there then you're aim may stretch as much as a full meter to either side when you're aiming at 200m+ like in the hills of Afghanistan. I could be wrong but unless they have that receiver bolted down with something better than the old thumb push button, it will shift under recoil.
-Short front grip. We saw this issue with the M4. You run out of space really quickly with something that small. Mounting a flashlight (absolutely needed) and whatever passes for a PEQ over there will take up a LOT of space really quickly. Makes it hard to arrange the gadgets and their pressure switches while still being able to retain a full grip. Also keeps you stuck with the tight body style of aiming the rifle which is nice when you're standing still but not the best if you're having to switch targets on the move like when you're clearing a house. Aftermarket companies have made a lower grip shaped like a U with squared edges that extends beyond the gas port. Heat shield included and the upper half is exposed allowing for heat to vent.
-Finally, the muzzle break. The 5.45 doesn't suffer from the same kind of recoil as the 7.62x39. The shorter ejection port should lower it even more. So why keep the muzzle break? The extra length suggests and attempt at burn out area for gas to reduce muzzle flash but we know that isn't enough. Plenty of flash hider designs on the market that are incredibly successful right now. The double baffles may reduce recoil, but they paint a perfect bracket of the shooters location even in medium shadows under daylight. The upside is that they mounted it on standard NATO threads. OMG! So you can switch this out easily.
Otherwise it looks like the Russians are entering the 21st century of weaponry. Now we need to see if it still has the same reliability as it's predecessors. They're definitely going to try and export this thing.
