@Keorythe,
Wow, thanks. That's the most helpful post I've had on the subject.
Yes, I want generally to do target shooting. I don't feel the need to get a high calibre gun for "home defense." I don't have images of being stormed by armed and armoured robbers. I imagine that if someone breaks in and I decide to shoot them, even a low calibre .22 will at least wound the fucker mildly.
I just checked my zip and discovered a few FFL brokers. Sadly, not many. One, fortunately, is also a gunshop in their own right, which gives me another place to look.
I'd originaly ruled out pawn shops because I assumed that it wasn't smart to get a gun from one.
In fact, one place has the gun I was looking at in the first store, for $40 cheaper: I think it was
I'm a bit dismayed to hear that gunshows and shops aren't that great for information. One would think that they'd be a fount of knowledge, but alas.
I'm not interested in putting in attachments to a gun. A new sight, as you suggest, might be the maximum I'd care about.
@Razor,
Hush. Have to pick up shooting somewhere.
Edit: Just called the number for the website I linked to ask if they had an instore location, since their office is a few streets away. Wound up having a 20 minute convo with one of the employees who was hellbent on making sure I get the right gun. In fact, the store personally delivers purchases to customers and since I'm new, he's more than happy to answer any questions I have, whether I buy from them or not. He's sending me over a list of questions he has for me in what I want, so he can locate some options. Damn. I've missed business having great personal touches.
It's a lot like car repair shops. Most are full of people trying to screw you with the occasional helpful gem scattered about.Quote:

Germany. I looked into this a bit, and it is rather problematic. You need to pass exams as well, especially for the hunting license. What annoys me more is the requirement to compete for sports shooters. I do have a mild tremor that shows up every now and then, but it makes competing a bitch.
All three are your personal weapons then? Yeah I can see how that sucks, even my brothers only have to go shoot either their pistol or rifle once a year. But just think of the life-saving skills you pick up while shooting those guns once a year, you'll be able to repel a Razor invasion all on your own!Quote:

I used to work for a rather famous Swiss scientist who told me that he had his gun back home in the closet. Sure enough when he finally moved back to Switzerland he was expected to get to the range once a year. I dont think he had the 550, whatever predated it.Quote:

crappy red lamp has been replaced with a properly calibrated 5mW laser (and yes is puts a nice red dot on what you are going to hit when you hold the trigger down half way) and the spring has been replaced with a much much stronger one. It can now shoot a level shot at least 50ft (although I am worried about the air chamber shattering one day, and its a bitch to prime)
...customized nerf gun?

Only gun I've ever fired is an air gun, but as far as hunting licenses in Germany are concerned, I can attest to them being a bitch. You need to attend a course that is actually quite hard if you aren't used to studying/learning and costs some 2k€. If the instructor feels you are not suited to possessing a gun in general or hunting in a sportsmanlike way ("weidmännisch" would be the non-translateable term, maybe "proper hunter's way"), he can refuse you out of hand. Also, if you're (being) divorced, you're out.
Additionally, you need to prove that you have access to a place where any game you might shoot may hang and get carved under conditions appropriate to German restaurant's hygiene regulations.

Duh, +10 to style - chicks dig it.
Also that will be a short-lived wolverine when he finds none of those magazines fit in his rifle
