View Full Version : [Eve Newsletter] New patch dates

April 28 2011, 06:41:11 PM
For those who tend to just delete the newsletters they send out I spotted the following in the latest:
» Incursion 1.5 - Coming May 3rd
» Incursion 1.5.1 - Coming May 17th
Nothing obvious on Eve-o as to what they will contain.

wow, theyre really good at divulging information. All they did was post tentative dates for patches, and not even state what, if anything, would be fixed. I mean usually when u have patch dates, you have a general idea of whats going to be rolled out, be it fixes or new features.

Surely whatever they're planning to patch on Tuesday is already in testing on SiSi, or is everyone lurking on Duality these days instead.

My guess is that it's the UI optimization, because it's been on sisi for a little while and it seems about ready.
In case you haven't tested it, it's OMGFAST. Everything is faster and the client uses less CPU.

par for the course. Expect that version of SiSi to be the version that makes it in to TQ on tuesday...and then they'll patch it 45 times, and tell us we should be logging into SiSi more. Nothing like the good ole "we cant be bothered to QA our shit, so we'll leave to you to not test it either" mentality.

After reading the responses, when the UI isnt doing anything its not slowing eve down so eve generaly needs less CPU to run.. When the UI is doing something it still needs CPU but its still less than what eve is currently using.. (right clicking in space makes CPU usage jump for a little bit as it trys to work out what you are right clicking on and draw the correct menu)
So fater would be framerate and ability to run multiple clients..

I do notice my computer chugs when the eve login screen is up while I check forums to see whether the DRF has control of the system I logged out in (protip: usually yes). Hopefully the new build will reduce this.

im still getting minutes worth of perma jams on "The Assault" occationally, not as bad as it was but still significantly more than what we had before the current change. the whole, "oh! a gap, locking...locking...locked! Launch!, ah dammit, jammed again. brb tea" thing is not as bad as it was just after the current patch, but its still looking like they jam twice as often.

The current UI is integrated with the rest of the client code (not modular). What they're doing is separate it, so that they optimize it easily, improve it, etc. Also having a modular UI code means that if they end up making a completly new UI for WoD, eve might be able to use it, obviously with a different skin.
What's on Sisi right now is - apart from a few details - exactly the same thing as the same old UI except that windows open instantly, the ship reacts instantly to navigation commands and the client uses less CPU. Basically what you can expect from old code optimization.

That is not entierly correct, the UI framework was redone a year ago to make it modular. You probably remember those windows that kept on unstacking for a month and CCP introduced the daily client patches?
What they have done now is to move the UI elements over to be GPU accellerated offloading a great deal of the CPU.

Missiles, brackets?
Why? They can't be targeted, and the damn things glow like tiny, angry suns. And I can't imagine trying to use an overview that included them.

So they pushed back 'Carbon UI' a month (and renumbered everything so 1.6 isnt released before 1.5).. Fully expect 'Carbon UI' to become part of Incarna 1.0
