That would be Pony Chronicles (http://ponychronicles.tumblr.com/), the dev's dA page is here (http://blue-cup.deviantart.com/).

Now on to other stuffs.

My Little Pony: Fighting is Magic (http://www.mane6.com/). One of the most polished, hotly anticipated fan games so far. The level of polish they're putting on this one is absolutely mindblowing.

As a fighting game geek, I can say that this game is going to devour my life for a week or two when it launches.

Not seen a youtube update from them for ages but the last one mentioned that they are having to rebuild the 2 courses they already made as they built the karts for the first course so they handled like shit on the 2nd. Also mentioned no OC which makes me very happy.

Open Letter to the Brony Fandom and the Fighting is Magic follower base.

As you might be aware today, one of our QAs broke our trust and a NDA agreement, and leaked a working build of Fighting is Magic to the Internet. As a result, our Internal QA testing program has been terminated.

The unfinished version of Fighting is Magic is, needless to say, unsupported. We won't answer any questions relative to it, we won't give technical support to it, we won't discuss mechanics or graphic details from it, given its status as a leaked, unfinished, internal testing build, which happened to be leaked just right before a major update was pushed to our now closed QA test program.

We're very, very disappointed in those we gave our trust to. We're also very disappointed in those downloading and distributing the leaked version.

Teaches us a lesson, though.

For now, Fighting is Magic will be going on a closed development cycle. No further QA, Alpha, Beta or testing program will be started or maintained until we have the remaining two characters done for the initial build. In addition BSUs will be cancelled, and no major content-related updates to the website will be forthcoming until further notice, while we at Mane6 deal with this situation and discuss changes for the future of the project.

That's all for now.

- Mane6

P.s. Don't worry, the game is still in the works. We're just dealing with the current situation.

I'm bad and played the FiM leaked build.

It's incredibly fun and decently polished - don't let their concern over the leak discourage you from looking forward to its official release - it doesn't seem to be lacking in anything at the moment than a few characters to make it complete.

I know next to nothing about competitive fighters so I can't really describe the gameplay. The Mane6 team have already released info on character techniques and gameplay footage so if you are wondering and haven't seen them start at http://www.mane6.com .

I will say that it wasn't hard to pick up and that Rarity is best pony B)

No I won't post where I got it but if you have half a brain you can figure it out. Just playing the leak has shown me why the creators have such pride for it so I'll do my best as an impulsive eager fan to respect that and not spam links all over the Internet.

Also they have retracted some of their statement concerning how they will be developing the game. Basically blog updates are temporarily on hold until they sort things out and the QA team is being dumped and new members recruited by referal only.

Characters I've found: Cherries Jubilee, Twilight, Daring Doo, Surprise the Wonderbolt, a Royal Guardsman (nope, statue), Scootaloo, Braeburn, Photofinish, Rarity, Applejack, The Great and Powerful Trixie, and not an OC in site. I think these guys know their ponies.

The Premier Snuggling Game Gets Brohoofed; Snuggle Truck’s Brony Mode!

Owlchemy Labs has been chomping at the bit to reveal the latest edgy-yet-adorable content update to Snuggle Truck.

Brony Mode, inspired by the whimsical cult following of the popular television show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, transforms the snuggly stuffed toys of Snuggle Truck into plushie ponies. With Brony Mode activated, players will transport eight new marshmallow sweet and oh-so-cute ponies in the over-the-top physics based game. Tilt your truck, catch baby dragons, and rocket your way with all of the love and tolerance you can muster to get those ponies to “da zoo!”

“We love the brony community,” stated Alex Schwartz, Chief Scientist and Fantasy Equine Specialist at Owlchemy Labs, “we began design on Brony Mode in response to fan requests. We wanted to make something to give back to the community. Snuggle Truck’s “cuddly-with-a-hint-of-badass” humor lends itself well to the stories and characters of the brony universe.”

Owlchemy enlisted the help of Andrew Brockert, an active member of the brony community and a past organizer of BronyCon, to lend his expertise to Brony Mode. “Owlchemy really wanted to do something fun for bronies,” said Brockert. “When I saw the finished product, I smiled at the art and laughed at an unexpected surprise. The community will love it.”

Anyone that has already purchased Snuggle Truck through Steam or received it through the Humble Bundle will get the Brony Mode update for free. The Brony Mode update will also be for sale on mobile platforms. Owlchemy plans to do what anypony would do when settling into a new community: plant an orchard of Zap Apples! Appreciating the charitable nature of the Brony community, Owlchemy Labs will plant one tree for every 200 purchases of Brony Mode. (Alright, we can’t promise that they will be Zap Apples, but every tree has a hint of magic in it, right?)

Steam players will find that this mode is included at no additional charge with the game, and Steam users that already have Snuggle Truck can gift the game to friends, counting toward the download total. This release comes on the heels of Owlchemy’s latest iOS title, Jack Lumber. “Jack hates trees,” explained Alex, “but at Owlchemy, we begrudgingly admit that trees may be important. Let’s face it, without trees, Jack Lumber is just a burly man with a fantastic beard and an unhealthy plaid obsession. “We’ll be sure to plant the trees as far away from our supernatural lumberjack as possible.” assured Alex.

Snuggle Truck is on sale today (October 1st, 2012) as Steam’s Daily Deal and can be downloaded today only for the amazingly low price of $2.50. Fans playing on iOS will find Brony Mode available as an in-app purchase within the free game. For more information, and maybe a few snuggles, visit: http://snuggletruck.com/ to grab it TODAY!

It's been said that they worked with Hasbro to canonize names of the background characters.

Sounds like it's going to be out very soon.

If you don't have an iDevice or an Android, and you just have to play it, I would assume you could set up an Android emulator (free) and just download the app (also free)

So many fanon names have just been canonized.

Not Pony related, but I wanted to share it nonetheless.

Okami HD was just released for PS3 as a $20 download on the PSN. If you have a PS3 and haven't played this amazing game yet, or just want to relive it in 1080p, go get it - now.

Almost everything I love about Pony, I probably loved in Okami first.
This is the highest recommendation I can give for a game, from one FiM fan to another.

The story is an odd rehashing of the pilot into a city-building game.. or something. Whatever - I wasn't really expecting a significant story.
Graphics are smooth (despite people claiming otherwise unless you zoom out), uses the show's regular VAs, and the music matches the show with some original parts and some familiar (might actually be William Anderson, dunno yet). I'll only get a few minutes with it today before this evening.

Yah. I had the quest to connect with a GL account. I was able to log in and see my info but the game didn't register and tried to prompt me to log in again. I had to pay a gem to skip it.

Yah here are a few bugs.

Also, if more than one pony lives in the same house you will only get prompted to do games with the first one to move in. The others have to be looked up in the album.

I'm also having a personal issue with the monetizih method implemented in the game. I'm level 21 abd things are starting to get prohibitively expensive. 10k to unlock my 4th tile (out of what, 50?) and no signs of slowing down. Sure you can play the game to completion withiut spending a dime... on an infinate time scale.

I noticed the same thing. Sure enough, their times are ticking down even when no one is working them and the "Zzzz" animation shows the same.

Derpy is pretty derped (the whole game is at times). I found her 6 times the first day I was playing. The second day I got the actually "find Derpy" quest and she didn't show, ever. One the third day the quest deleted itself somehow, then Derpy showed up an hour later.

I'll leave it installed just in case they add something interesting I'll notice the update notes.

GameLoft monetized the crap out of the game, and left little substance beyond "collect all teh poniez".

They claimed it was for kids, but when it costs $50 worth of gems (or over 6 months of daily grinding) to get Celestia, who is just one of the dozen some ponies you can't get with just coins, well.. fuck that.

I decided I had it when I saw the game actually grows new hazards in the land you already payed an arm and a leg for so it can sap you of more coins/$.

There isn't going to be a lot in there that the community hasn't already out-done.

The music is rehash of the official soundtrack, the sfx are generic or ripped from the show, and the models are not that good. Maybe some of the pixel art.

Also the font is the open sourced alternative to the official 'Generation B' font used by Hasbro that was made by a community member.

Actually both Celestia Medium and Celestia Medium Redux were released into the public domain. So not stolen. (Though Purple Tinker withdrew the original CM and urges people to buy Generation B instead, CM and CMR received a tacit nod from Gen B's creator.)

No. I appreciate the effort, but the money grabbing is painfully obvious and there is little more to the game.

It would have been better if the monetizing was toned down a bit, if managing the characters actually had some simple RPGish progression do it, if maintaining and expanding your city actually granted you other benefits than more money to buy more things, and if occasionally a big-bad would show up and you would have to risk a party of characters to defeat them in an actual quest sequence (optionally teaming up with a party from your friends list) - that would be a game I would play.

...anyone comfortable developing on Android?

FYI getting the full mane cast isn't enough, you have to go through the main story tasks the game gives you in order to get the true ending, according to an official Gameloft FAQ (I can confirm that activating all elements with the mane cast without doing the story results in nothing).

Some of these tasks involve spending 350 gems to buy a clock tower, or 50 hearts to get Scootaloo.

Why do you do this to us, Gameloft.Seriously, how the hell do people put up with this? It sounds like you'd have to spend hundreds of dollars to finish the game.

Apparently the game is unencrypted and easily modifiable with a hex editor. There's a guide or two on Reddit on how to make the timers, costs, payouts, and prize yields a bit saner (or you can just cheat completely). It still can't add any actually gameplay but I thought I would throw this out there.

http://www.reddit.com/r/MLPIOS/comments/1349n8/hardcore_cheating_for_tons_of_coins_and_gems/The last game I can think of where that kind of cheating was mandatory was Ikaruga. And Ikaruga was a legitimately hard bullet hell game that only a Japanese shmup grandmaster could complete. The MLP game is just an exercise in exploiting parents.

I do like this quote from EqD though: "For instance: Celestia alone costs 950 gems. To get that many you either have to play every single day for over a year to farm enough gems, or spend 99.99 to buy the gems, which is enough money to buy an actual Celestia figure, the DVD box set of FiM Season 1, and still have enough left over for a brand new, full-priced retail game. "

Minor derail but Ikaruga wasn't that hard. It was just hard if you wanted to rack up a decent score. A few days of pattern memorization would get you through it (Though with a shitty score.)

Now trying to do something like this was legitimately a pain in the ass:

So I found out about MTSP - software that adds networked multiplayer, matchmaking lobbies, replays, and more to FM2k - built for 'Fighting is Magic'!

If anyone is interested in it, the latest version (that I am aware off - their website is a mess :S ) is here: http://www.sendspace.com/file/kirbv4

More information is on their forums:
http://thetrotspot.net/index.php?/topic/84-newbies-guide-to-mtsp/

..and, of course, this:
http://thetrotspot.net/index.php?/topic/142-fighting-is-magic-direct-download-link/

I've been playing the base game casually for a few months, and having this will be great.

If anyone needs extra help setting something up, feel free to ask.

(There is also a basic AI someone has been working on. If I find it, and it works, I'll link that as well)
((Nice. The dev of all this seems to be working closely with the FiM team to create hacks to work around some of FM2k's limitations - yay!))

In other news, Pony Platforming Project released a preview of Minty Fresh Adventure II. It's only a fun intro and mostly incomplete level crawls, but it's worth checking out.

NEW FIGHTING IS MAGIC. CAPS LOCK ENGAGED.

Hello, everyone.

We have what for most will be bad news, for us are terrible news, and for a selected few might actually be good news.

We have received a C&D letter from Hasbro's Legal representatives, asking us to cease game development, remove any materials that might contain My Little Pony characters, names, locations or related elements from the sites we control (Our site, our youtube, our twitch), and "cease any further use of [their] MY LITTLE PONY property".

Options have been considered, lawyers have been contacted, and resources have been (mostly) exhausted.

We have attempted negotiating with Hasbro for the continued use of the property in our non-profit, voluntary project, but so far we haven't received an answer. As such, we're complying with the contents of the C&D letter until we receive answer from their PR and/or Legal departments.

We also want to inform the general public of the final and irrevocable resignation of James Workman (Elosande) from the Mane6 DevTeam, effective February 6, 2013, as well as reminding of the final and irrevocable resignation of Prominence, effective January 30, 2012. The Mane6 DevTeam no longer represents their interest, nor do they represent ours.

We'll keep everyone posted as the situation evolves, but be aware we might not be able to respond to comments and questions due to the delicate nature of the situation.
Thanks for following our project so far.

So, pony is out, but we will get to retain the mechanics and art style which were the best parts of the game, imho.

I'm still holding out for a leak of the original character assets later down the line, though. ;)

Some anons on /mlp/ are working on completing fighting is magic themselves. Also, make new characters 4 legged animals, apply mlp skin post release.

Nu11u5
March 2 2013, 03:07:17 PM
They won't need to, assuming this is true (and not the same people).

Hijacking the top comment to answer a couple repeated questions. Note all my answers are straight from the mane6 site or their personal comments on the site.

No ponies at all. However, the characters WILL be 4 legged, this along with them stating that they want to keep the same move sets means modding the game to include ponies would not be very difficult.

The release for the new game is likely pushed far back because they are back in "early concept stages" again.

They are working on releasing all of their assets, meaning that modding in the pony sprites and stages would be even easier.

Mane6 is getting very excited about possibly getting the Skull Girls engine. One thing that isn't talked about is that would allow them to sell the game, and even publish it for consoles.

Have teaser of Lauren's concept art!

If they reach their $725k goal in the next 15 hours they will give their revolutionary fighter engine to Mane6 for free to do as they wish!

Funded, bitches. $740k with 9 hours to go and still climbing.

Mort, you should still consider checking out Skullgirls. If you have a PS3 or an 360 you can download the free demo (the crowdfund is only for the PC port and expanding the content). I've only had a chance to look at it briefly (I will be messing with it a lot tonight), and what I saw I liked. It shared some mechanics with FIM like stick-based move sets, lots of aerials, and plenty of combo opportunities.

The thing that turns me off of fighters the most are button string movesets. I don't want to feel like have to either memorize a page's worth of AABC>>A or button mash to do anything, but a simple stick-based move set (QuarterCircleFoward+A, etc) I can get into and have it begin to feel intuitive.

Also, FIM may no longer be Pony, but it should still have the same feeling. It may actually be close enough to the original art style (with the already announced hooven cast) that it might as well be Equestrian Brawl [Ponies not invited]!

Fixed in what?

I've found I'm best using a keyboard. My thumbs will get sore using gamepad sticks in fighters with the way I end up holding the controller.

'Fixed' was a poor choice of words. I too find the long button strings annoying, thinking about the last fighting game I enjoyed was Soul Calibre 2, which I don't remember having the insane button combinations.

Uh, what? Which fighters have you been playing?

Arcsys fighters (Guilty Gear, Blazblue) and Street Fighter titles make up the bulk of the US fighting game scene, and both are built on fairly simple inputs. Super Street Fighter IV in particular is very much built around classic short chains, so not only is each individual move simple, but you don't have to worry about flawless execution of long move chains.

That said, FiM looked very much like an Arcsys game in terms of combo behavior, with longer combos and more juggling than SF.
