I'm going to take the opportunity to share one of my own favourites then, something I've been following for the past six months now. Sadly, while it is rather slow to update, it's a genuinely enjoyable story with exceptionally high quality writing, a well thought out backstory, plenty of worldbuilding and interesting characters, conflicts, hidden agendas and well... I've seldom been this interested in a story.

The only sad thing about it is that it's fairly slow to update, but if I had to pick one story to recommend to another brony, it would be this one.

Which puts her in many awkward, embarrasing and pretty hilarious situations most of the time.

Bruce, a 30 something old man, gets taken to Equestria as a 9 year old colt. And no one will believe him. It's a bit on the realistic side, so off hand remarks about sex and body functions are there (Nothing explicit though), including the quality line from Bruce -

The White Rider

After the destruction of the One Ring and the restoration of peace to Middle-Earth, Gandalf the White departs to Equestria to pay a visit to two old friends of his. Rather, two old Alicorn friends of his.

What he does not foresee is the fact that unlike during his last visit, Equestria is now populated with many, many more ponies, and his presence in Equestria will attract their undivided attention.

Old, strangely-dressed stallions with long white beards and staves are a rare sight among even ponykind, after all.

Can the old Wizard-turned-unicorn endure the (mostly hilarious) trials of Equestrian friendship? Surely. But only if he makes a few more friends along the way.

Six of them, to be specific.

Warning: that story started only yesterday (august 23), so it only has one chapter. But, it also has 430 thumbs up versus 3 down. So it might be something to keep an eye on. Or to read, if you don't hate reading incomplete fics, like i do.

It's a very good fic. Needs to have a lot of "purple prose" cut out, but still quite good. I also find it impressive that he managed to take what should be an incredibly sad ending and give it just enough hope to not be utterly depressing.

Normally the death of the main character alone and suffering is the worst thing that could happen. Here it's probably the best, and she seems to get a little bit of her mind back right before the end. Much better than what happened to Alabaster. Or to Aria. Or Discord.
