At the time it aired, and months later when the BDs came out it was still massively popular, BD's sold (IIRC) 22,000 units on the first day? Now I won't argue that a few year's from now it won't necessarily have long-lasting appeal, but it's certainly bigger than 'mere pedo crap'. It had great sales...then totally petered out. It's still just a magic girl show when it comes down to it, and there's better and more popular franchises in that genre. Say what you want but the only interesting characters are the main character and his love interest. The rest of the characters might as well not exist (the other bandmembers suck, the oversexed manager is just there to keep the <18 boys interested). A lot of the jokes fall flat. Like I said there are some strong moments but mostly it was simply not fun to watch for me. YMMV.

Just finished watching Monster... the ending was satisfactory for an anime series and I found from episode 30-74 (the end) very engaging. Episode 1-29 I didn't find as engaging and I think a good 8 or so could have been removed entirely without negatively impacting the overall story. They also followed the same rule Blood+ did, if you can't draw something well don't draw it at all which is appreciated over the alternative. If you're the type that likes a series delving into the "why" the villian is working towards a goal then I'd recommend it. If you don't care then I would not.

Oh and the answer to the question some of you are thinking to yourselves:

I'm marathonning Steins;Gate today, having put off watching it all season. I wasn't actually expecting to enjoy it as much as I have so far: I was kind of expecting the characters to be quite generic, but they're all actually pretty interesting, and ~10 episodes in I have honestly got no idea what's going to happen next.

I finished all 3 eps of Violence Jack...I'm so confused.
It was all over the place, from plot to product quality.
The male chauvinism of James Bond[just started those :) ], the mythology scale of Beowulf, the brutality of Fist of The North Star, and the plot control of an earthquake. Also, porn ranging from boring, to nice, to uncomfortable[I've seen worse].
Mostly it was a cheesy ripoff of FotNS. And not to be high priority for anything other than gore.[Reed this is the garbage 80's anime you will need to see, for perspective]


Back to Tokyo Mag 8.0 and Magical Shopping Arcade.[yeah I'm using other anime to lessen/distract from TM8, it's too personal for me, I am haunted by the sound effect they used on the bridge, when they were sightseeing it for the first time. Confirming first couple arcs of Bleach were actually kind of good. It got real shit real fast though. My main gripe is that the antagonists are all much better characters than the main character. Everytime I got more interested in the bad guys, and found myself wanting them to beat the crap out of the whiny faggot protagonist who spends his entire 300 episode life being emo. Also all the side characters became either pointless comic relief or simply pointless, and my god the fillers ... :/

Guitar teacher of my brother recommended Kaiji. Saw a few episodes and its actually pretty good. Its the story of a guy with a ton of debt and only gambling as his way out.

Chobits/Gantz/Fist of The North Star/Shadowstar Narutaru/Wolf Rain/Witch Hunter Robin/NARUTO need reboots... alot of stuff was botched in those, for no good reason.
'Nippon Hollywood' picks the merchandise-able/already perfect stuff to reboot, see Evangelion Rebuild[don't], GallForce SD/Gundam SD[:psyduck:].
Some flawed series with 54 eps could be shrunk down by a good director, for only character building content and brevity[Nadia: SoBW]. Not to mention script errors/awkward comic relief[Trigun...].

What's next, FLCL will be expanded to 13 eps? :(

When you really come down to it, watching Zabuza fight Kakashi and decapitate that short fat guy are the show's only redeeming factors (manga too really, though it managed to remain ok right up until the find Tsunade arc, after that it leapt strait into a wallbanger and just kept going from one to another). Other than that there's a couple early scenes like Naruto vs Haku and valley of the end which are ok by themselves but mostly drowning in a sea of shit.

Bam, Reading Steiner activates. he snaps out of it to realize kurisu is standing there with an apron on, baking something. She's like "what's wrong" and it turns out he saved her and they got married and maybe have little okarins and stuff. idk. but that would be pretty cool.

Pretty sure it was parodying the general trend in anime to introduce a random drama-bomb plot thread out of nowhere in the last episode or two. It wasn't meant to be taken seriously, the entire plot was too silly.

GITS series easily lives up to the original OVA in terms of quality, esp. the second season that established a continuous arc from pretty much episode 1, while 1st gig kind of waited until half-way through before breaking out a long plot arc. If you loved the GITS movies you owe it to yourself to watch the series.

Paprika is just an inferior version of inception tbh, didn't care for it.

I recently saw The Irresponsible Captain Tylor which was surprisingly good. It's a futuristic space setting with mostly comedy but has some serious subplots too. Would recommend to fans of the genre.
Paprika was pretty cool imo. It predates Inception and I saw it before, and enjoyed it.
I didn't like Gantz... so much wasted potential tbh.

Like absolutely terrible animation, dubbing, plots I couldnt stand more than 5 mins of it while waiting for quantum of solace and true lies to come off their 20 minute commercial breaks (conveniently interspersed by 5 mins of movie). The action and dialogue couldnt have been more cliche.

I remember watching afternoon toonami in middle school when they had shows like gundam, cowboy beebop, outlaw star etc and im wondering if they were just as bad as this but as a kid I didnt recognize it... or hopefully they actually were decent and these latest "shows" wasting airtime on a saturday night are just shit.

Just marathon'd Deadman Wonderland (only 12 eps but marathon nonetheless). Good stuff. Couple of pages ago someone was asking for ultraviolent animes with a good plot, I would definitely recommend checking it out. A few of the ~plottwists~ were a bit predictable but lots of gore so all is well. Pretty awesome soundtrack too if you're into that genre. Would have downloaded but I haven't been able to find a good DL for it.

After seeing the end of Stein's Gate I decided to go back and watch one of their earlier works, Chaos Head. Just finished it and liked it. Was a bigger fan of Stein's Gate but I think Chaos Head is worth the watch.

For the Nitro+ material, I would check out the source VN. C;H is translated, and S;G fan translation is in beta and probably will be fully ready in a pair of weeks.
