It was Sumner arguing with the guy off stage that the levels were wrong, which was true as you couldn't hear the vocals, and constantly fiddling with stuff on the rack.. Put it down to the venue being crap at setting up of electronic gigs.

You should have asked! There's even a cool story about it. Coldplay's lawyers sent a long and detailed letter about what part of the song they would use, what kind of deal they'd like, etc. Kraftwerk responded with "yes". No conditions, no due, nothing. Just to go ahead and have fun with it.

I was born in 1991, so you're not alone! 95% of the stuff I'm posting was made in the last year or two, though. It's awesome that people started making that kind of music again right when I was really getting into 80s music (the original, not that new wave). Perfect timing. Also, the movie Drive is basically just a 100 min videoclip for that kind of music. It did a lot to popularize it.

That KLF song is interesting because it sounds exactly in the middle between 80s electronic music (the beat and melody sound industrial-ish) and Faithless-style 90s synth sounds (even more on their other songs).
