This is part of a project I have been looking at internally as a corp for a while and I wondered if dark was 'average' in terms of how people fund their accounts.

Personally I have four active accounts and go through phases of passive/active. Having played a while I have accumulated a lot of 'stuff' so some times I just do nothing and burn isk reserves and every now and then I feel Im getting a bit poor and do set up some passive stuff to top up the reserves.

So how do you do it? What tips have you got for others and as a random question, do you think EVE is good value for money or time if your paying with hours rather than isk.

Since I have a RL job (hi poasting from work) and I can pay for a GTC with a single hour of worktime (fuck taxes) I use GTC to pay for my accounts - I can't be bothered to grind ISK to pay for accounts AND ships if I have to work for 8h a day.
Guess I should get an invention alt and setup some passive income to pay for ships but :effort:

I used to have some reaction POS which funded my 6 accounts nicely. I took them down though as they were too much work and I had fuck all time to play. I did some invention and trading on top to get ISK for shiny shit.
Currently only have 3 accounts subbed and I'm just paying for those with my ISK reserves at the moment. Will probably put the POS back up in a month or so I guess.

Not everyone in gaming is a cash-strapped kid, after all. No need for wasting isk on subs when you have a decent job, generally speaking. And no need for the roundabout of GTC's either tbh, not for your own subs at least.

I haven't logged in since 2008 but i have never paid for any gtc. Farming to get my ss up, on fattest sansha rats net me enough money to pay for account and some ships, with a bit of trading and mission running with rp agents on second account. I never put effort into isk farming, i am sure i never rat for more than 1-1,5h straight. I would never pay with isks for game time if i weren't a student without a well-paid job.

Also having RL money is no reason not to use semi passive income in EvE. If you are acting as if you were smug posh boys, you should put the money you "invested" into EvE to good use in order to make more money :P

The first time I really needed to pay by GTC one month (lol bills) I bought a 700M ISK Thrasher by mistake. I had less than a billion to my name to begin with.

Took a deep breath or two, fitted it, undocked and went looking all over Jita for an AFK pod that was at least a couple years old: to maximize the chances it'd cost someone some really good implants.

Felt much better afterward.

Ive paid in cash most of my subscription but over the last year or so have paid with isk. Running missions for 3 or 4 hours a week gives me more than enough monthly to pay for 2 accounts and still put isk in the wallet for toys - much more if I grind for a bit.

I totally agree. Eve is so low cost compared to everything else in my life. Hell, even a decent lunch is 9 euro/$13 where I live!
The gtc/plex system is awesome. Ppl with less time and a steady rl-income can pay for the sub for players with much time but less rl-income. Win win! ;)
